Why don't their parents stop them before they get to that stage? |

It seems too many kids are being brought up on Big Macs, and instead of going out to play, they're sitting in front of DVDs all day.

When they show newsreel from places like Iraq, how many people do you see that are morbidly obese? Yet there's an epidemic in Europe and America.
|
|
By:
They are greedy slatterns whose only exercise is to tip back several bottles of WKD and go to the bog.
Only mild form of exercise is relaxing up against a shop door with their ''catch of the day'''.............. Usually a brain dead monster called justin or sumfink..... |

Are there any obese young burds on here? Why don't their parents stop them before they get to that stage? The parents are even fatter so they haven't got a leg to stand on (and in fact have to sit most of the time). |

It's not just eating too much and not exercising. It's sugar. We're eating unnatural amounts of it that the body has never evolved to deal with. The cells can't use it, so it's converted to fat. I'm sure stone age man pigged out for weeks after a mammoth kill, but they probably didn't get obese. Did you know, for instance, that there's NINE teaspoons of sugar in a can of coke?

You always get the fat mingers in McGreasy ordering a DIET Coke with their Triple Cellulite Burger.........

Fat **s. Yuk.

I remember reading that things which people like eating such as sugar and fatty foods always required a huge effort in the past to obtain, thus meaning the reward had to be larger to motivate people to go and hunt/gather them. These days you just pop down to the local shop and get as much as you want.

All relevant points, but what I can't get my head around is that thay and their parents must see that they are getting a lot fatter than they should be, so why don't they do something about it? I'm not saying that all girls should look like glamour models, but they must know that it's not good for their health or their own self confidence to be twice the weight they should be.
|
|
By:
I'm not sure tam. Maybe because there are so many over-weight people around they don't see themselves as having a problem. It is interesting how quickly it has changed. I was at secondary school in the early 80's and virtually no one was overweight.

I left school in 1975.
I remember just one fat person in the whole school. Roy Shufflebottom. The fact that I remember his name over 30 years later shows how unusual it was. |

I love fat birds, they try harder and are much much more grateful.

is it the same for ugly burds?
|
|
By:
burde = anglo saxon for a women- burden is a saxon plural- more than one woman make of that what you will-

This problem isn't going to go away quickly. Many billions of pounds are spent every year on advertising and producing processed foods. Big business is hard to defeat.

Gordon Brown should introduce a fat tax. Once a year on your birthday you have to go to a weighin at the local Inland Revenue office. Once they check your height and other factors they should have your ideal weight.A sliding scale of penalties should be introduced so the mildy overweight get penalised a few hundred but the grossly overweight get penalised thousands then they won't afford Big Bacs. Those of us like me who are as skinny as a rake can get a rebate.

insider, i left school about the same time, and i agree. so what do you think has caused this to happen in the last 30 years?

Childrens TV, Playstations/X-boxes/nintendoes/Tamagotchis, crisps, sweets, Dairylea Dunkers, Sunny Delight, Pringles, Mucky Ds, KFC, frozen pizzas, ready meals, lifts to school in the people carrier/ 4X4, fizzy drinks etc.
I was allowed none of these when I was a kid. These days they get the lot and are sitting down the whole time. |

Whereas now you sit in front of a computer all day!

Take a look around at the discarded soft drinks cans and plastic bottles. Far more than there used to be. Dissolved sugar is the worst as it gets absorbed into the bloodstream faster. The cells can't use it, so it's turned to fat. A good survival strategy in the Stone Age, but not today.
