yes, thieving barstewards. Went there once for a tyre, reasonably priced. Tried to flog me a new exhaust as the old one was "corroding". Took it somewhere else and he showed me the corrosion was actually the outer skin of a double skin back box, inner wholly intact, still got same exhaust 3 years later!

went for a new tyre there once and was told two of the others were dangerous and they couldn't 'in good conscience' let me drive away with them in that condition. asked them to just complete the job i had asked them to do which they did eventually

took it elsewhere and was told that while the other two would need replacing fairly soon i had another 1000 or so miles in them

i have only ever heard bad things about them

bathwick tyres on the other hand (my local one at least) have always been very honest: have been a couple of times thinking i must need new front tyres and they have said to come back in a couple of months as they are alright for now! good price when they eventually needed doing too

Kwik Fit are famous for this, they**a puncture for you free of charge then next time you go back they try to stiff you with expensive stuff you don't need.
Their fitters are poor as well, I had one tell me my shock absorbers were leaking oil to which I said 'thats odd because they are gas'.
Even though gas shocks are just oil ones pressurised with gas the fitter did not know this and admitted he must have spilt oil on them by accident. Basically he thought he could sprat the bodies with his oil can and con me into replacing my shocks. I worked in the motor trade myself for 10 years so was not falling for that.

took it to get a puncture fixed as it was handy to where I was. I was told the tyre was fooked. I said just**the puncture but he refused as "it wouldn't last a week."

Took it to a private guy a little further away who charged 1/2 as much for the puncture. Car passed MOT 3 months later on the same tyres.

MY wife took my 3 year old car there with only 4,500 miles on the clock for a MOT, they told her that the tyres were fitted the wrong way round and running the wrong way and they all need changing.

I kid you not!

All theses people are on bonus depending on their yearly intakes

Were you a crook like them when you were in the trade?

'I worked in the motor trade' covers a mulitude of sins..............
you could have been anything from a top technician to a driver or car park attendant !!

Wish this thread had appeared yesterday - took car there for service and MOT today. Knew there were probably a couple of things that would need sorting out, but apparently we need a new steering rack, costing £250 just for the part. :(

Am pretty clueless about cars unfortunately, so not in much of a position to argue (could obviously take it elsewhere but wouldn't have any more confidence that they wouldn't take the p!ss either).

Smallpunt Timer....you arn't the 1st......you won't be the last.... to be taken advantage of by the parasitic motor trade that thrives on using ambiguity added to the punters' naivity to gain it's own profit

I know - ironically enough the main reason we used Kwik Fit is because I felt the two garages in our town that we've used in the past were overcharging and taking the p!ss.

Other than try to learn about cars myself so that I can at least try to argue from a position of semi-knowledge, it's hard to know what to do in order to protect yourself.

I remember once I went in for an air filter, before i knew it one bloke throw a couple of tyres round my neck, another doused me in petrol and yet a third took out a match and set me allight, after which they all proceeded to dance round me whooping and a hollering, needless to say i reported them to trading standards
