Looking to get a laptop for my little girl for Xmas - to be used when she gets to secondary school in September.

Will be used for playing music / videos etc and basic internet stuff.

Seem to be plenty around the £350-400 mark (which is what I want to pay!) - what should I be looking for?

Going out this evening so can't reply but many thanks in advance.

SV, get a copy of "What Laptop" magazine...they usually give you a good steer on what's good.

never buy another dell

reason is the drivers are very hard to update
world of warcraft stopped working on my dell , i needed an update to my intel graphic card.
It wouldnt let me download as it was a dell machine which has to be upgraded from the dell support site.

Except when i go there they havent put in an upgrade to the graphics card since 2007.

Dell always doing this , probably because they would like you to buy a new laptop every two years

I always buy Lenovos. Rock solid. Friend has a decent spec Asus. Seems very well built. Not had one myself but plenty of people complain about Acers. Have a look at the recommended ones on pcpro website.

Dell, will never do business with them every again. Useless people and the lap tops are not a lot better. Bought an Acer to replace it, seems fine, works very well, not a problem. Basic tip is to get as much memory as you can afford.
