And before you start: no, this is not a "Thinly veiled 'I'm a paedo' fred".

Are kids forced to wear those horrible luminous jackets when they're walking down the road?

Depends on the school I believe. The teachers usually wear them (insurance I think).

Morning Max. No idea. Just wanted to congratulate you on your football quiz success last night. Immense performance that. VWP.

Thanks, Alex :)

The reason I ask is two-fold:

:: They look **íng ridiculous, walking down the road at 1.30pm in a luminous jacket.
:: In a group of 20-odd kids last week, about half-a-dozen weren't wearing the jackets. I wondered if their parents had said, "We're OK - we don't want our kids looking stupid."

I would guess that it's simply a way to easily spot kids who might be straggling or have run off ahead maybe? Or a way of differentiating the good kids from the bad kids ;)

strange question tbh

i would imagine that , no kids dont have to wear them by their parents !
however of walking from school to the creche or on an outing they would for some health and safety thing or other.
common sense really , if your kid walks down the high street and home , then they wouldnt need one.
but of they have to walk along an unlit country road then its probably a good idea.

stevie_p - My point is that these kids were wearing them at 1.30pm. That was when I was in Devon. I've seen kids near me wearing them at the same time - and I doubt they were walking to the "unlit country roads" cos they're more than a mile away.

It just seems like more Health and Safety bollócks to me.

It's not compulsory - relax.

Handy though for when you know which one to aim for when you mount the kirb in a**ed-up haze, in your Toyota Land Cruiser with bullbars.

its probally because the teachers are taking the kids out of school,if the slightest accident happens teachers have to be seen to be taking every procaution for when the parents talk to mr no win no fee

at this time of year they are given out free of charge to children. Its upto the individual whether they were them. The aim is to make them more visible especially at this time of year when some kids are walking in the dark
