gf's old fella is having a bad time, almost totally blind and lots of health probs, in his 80's. GF thinks this might be his last christmas and I think she might be right. he is a very tough old bugger. he has diabetes so got to be very careful with foodstufs etc. he loves his chocolate and if he was given a box he would say fccuk it and devour them!
grumpy old bugger, with good cause I reckon, hasnt got patience to listen to talking books and he has all the cds of shirley bassey he can cope with.
anyone got or had a member of family in the same position? any suggestions as to what he might find gives him some pleasure (he is still married btw so discretely sourced carnal pleasures are out although he would love it) ?

Audio recordings of old shows like Tony Hancock, Steptoe, etc. Wartime radio shows, ITMA, etc. Comic monologues like The Lion And Albert.

Maybe even spend some time listening to him.

What about a trip to his fav footy ground, get the headphone commentary on and soak up the atmosphere?

tried the old radio shows, got them on cd, he gives up on them, hasn't got the patience. not a footy fan or a sports fan for that matter and he lives 130 miles away, I think we are stumped

How about a trip of quality time? A bracing walk along the seafront, fish and chip supper etc.

Think of a day out at his favourite place, take a nip of whisky and bring a smile to his face. Good luck.

hes not up to much physically, hence the grumpy old bugger, cant walk more than 20 feet and hes knackered. hes great at giving jobs out, invited us down and got me to**a light switch! I think the sending time with him is the best option as Im not sure there is anything physically we can give him

RD, I think spending time with him would probably be more appreciated than anything else.
You could always take him some diabetic chocolates as well:

That or refer him to betfair. He'll get a join up bonus and you'll get a percentage of his spend for ever.
