A superb weekend offering from giveawayofthe day today.
Archibalds adventures - I got it when it was given away some months ago.

Only about 16 hours left to download this, and I recommend it thoroughly.

Thanks Study. :)

Can you tell me if you have ever had any trouble with these downloads in terms of messing with the computer registry at any time?

sorry for delay.
no, no problems ever.
It's worth reading the comments on the download page tho.

Thanks Study, I'll give it a go then. :)

Please let me know if they ever give away a PC version of Impossible Mission. Loved that game as a kid.

I remember the title. Think I might have had Impossible Mission II. Don't remember it though.

Wait a minute. Was that the one with robots that kept zapping you and you had collect a key from different towers and then jump off the top of the building? Think it was. Very addictive that one.

I can remember the mad scientist use to say: "Stay awhile. Stay foreverrrrrrr!"

You had to collect various pieces of a jigsaw from rooms guarded by animated office furniture that could kill you.

At the end of the game these had to be pieced together to form a picture of some sort.

It was a Commodore 64 game.

Sorry I wasn't here to discuss this - been out most of the day.

"Stay a while, stayyy foreverrrr' Elvin Atombender, iirc
was my fav on the C64 - which I still have btw, with 1000's of games, cartridges, magazines, disc drive, light pen, light gun, a box of joysticks, and so on and so on. I had Mission Impossible II as well, which I more or less completed.

Evening Study :)

I've successfully downloaded the program, unzipped the files and installed the software, but I cannot seem to activate the game.

There is no icon on my desktop (or anywhere else) to click. :(

If there's no icon, it's still quite easy
There's a regular poster on the site called whiterabbit who is excellent with his appraisals and info.
I've copied this from his post.

The installation is straightforward; with the default location for installation going to the root directorys games folder (usually C:\Games\). There is no desktop or Start menu shortcut installed, but its easy enough to create a desktop shortcut by right clicking on the appropriate icon and selecting Send to Desktop (Create Shortcut)

So. If you just click on Run (Start button on bottom left of screen, then bottom of left hand column), then type C:\Games\ then open the archibald folder, the most likely icon will usually run the game. just right click on that and 'send to desktop'.

hope it works. I reckon you'll enjoy this game.

Bugger! :(

Those instructions worked perfectly Study. Unfortunately, when I clicked on the icon, this error message appeared:

Unable to initialize bass audio, error code 23. Unable to initialize sound subsystem. Engine initializtion failed.

The program then closed itself down. I'm sure the software is fine and it's a problem with my computer, which is on its last legs I'm afraid.

Are you sure you got the right icon?

uninstall it and try again. there's 8 hours left.

Yeah :(

Nothing wrong with the program Study, I'm sure. It's my computer playing up.

Thank you anyway sir. I'll keep the software and transfer it onto a new machine later. :)

yes, it'll probably work, PM.
If not, it's made by Rake In Grass, and I have another of their games (Crystal Caves - which is a very nice version of Boulderdash or Rockford, I'll bet you remember those!). My guess is you'll be able to find somewhere to get them from. Although I stress, the giveawayoftheday.com site is safe.

I saw the title of this thread and thought I'd get me some partridge or pheasant, damn.

The name Boulderdash rings a bell, but I definitely haven't played it before. Or Rockford.

I didn't really have many games for my computer when I was a kid; a few of the Scott Adams adventures, Impossible Mission and PacMan is about it.

Oh, and Manic Miner of course! :)

You must remember Boulderdash (Rockford was the same) - walking through earth (soil) pushing round boulders and collecting diamonds. It was a very early and quite quick loading game, there were some sequels too, I even have a 'Boulderdash construction Kit' somewhere too.

Sorry spyker. I've got some sausages in the freezer I'll probably never eat - but thats as near as I can get.

I'm afraid I don't Study. :(

I either have a shocking memory or I was cruelly deprived. Is thirty odd years after the event too late to call Childline?

Mid-eighties mate. I feel old enough without it being 30 years ago!

Anyway - I hope it works on the new machine.
Sleep for me now
