my nephews want a top notch gaming pc for christmas, how much is it likely to cost and what would be a good make?

any advice gratefully received :)

Buy PC Advisor magazine. Their "top 5" lists for different price ranges are invaluable, and will show you what the issues are, and what compromises and trade-offs you can make to hit your budget.

For gaming (what we used to call playing) a good graphics card can be vital, for instance.

Erm, when you say nephews, do you mean there is more than one of them? If so, find out whether they want one each or can share.

You might do better buying one top end machine for gaming and a cheap one for homework, rather than two middle-rank PCs.

Thinly veiled' I dont wanna be seen as one of those Welshie types who go on and on about the graphical nature of the wargames being an undoubted influence on the voilence of todays society so Ill pretend its for my nephews, I havent even goy a sister or a brother' thread.

Gaming pc costs a fortune for a top one. Also goes out of date after a year or two as better processors video cards etc are released and the newer games will need to be played on latest versions of these.

Which is why consoles (xbox ps etc) are popular.

On this subject can anyone recommend a half decent game to download to a netbook? Would be an old one I know.
1.6Ghz chip, Integrated graphics memory 1GB Ram.
No DVD drive obviously and I cant be asked to f@nny about with an external drive.

A gaming PC capable of playing lastest games, at full HD 1920 x 1080 (or 1200) resolution with all the bells and whistles will cost £500 - £600ish if built by yourself, or about £700- £750 from a shop.

Yes, it costs more than a ps3 or xbox, but the graphics will be far better, even more so when DX11 games come out in a few months (and a dx 11 card of course).

Tr and get a computer with either an Nvidia GTX275 or 285.

Many may disagree, but I am not an ATI fan.
