Obviously it is massively biased to guitar music. I think I would put the arctic monkeys debut nhigher up, though have never listened to Primal Scream. Arcade Fire are pretty damn awesome though. Who would you like to be on it?

1. The Strokes - Is This It
2. The Libertines - Up The Bracket
3. Primal Scream - XTRMNTR
4. Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
5. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever To Tell
6. PJ Harvey - Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea
7. Arcade Fire - Funeral
8. Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights
9. The Streets - Original Pirate Material
10. Radiohead - In Rainbows

So many basic errors and news reported way, way after being announced.

Some of the reviews they write are very poor and at times just lies.

Nme had little to do with the voting - it was by 'da industry' so other bands producers, managers etc. It's useless to compare era with era as people your age said the same thing back in the 70's (or whichever decade you care to chose) about the music around then and the music they liked from years earlier! Apart from the 80's - universally acknowledged as the decade that (musical) taste forgot.......
Report thetitan November 18, 2009 9:41 AM GMT
it's actually not as sh1t as i thought it would be - the strokes is this it is clearly the most influential album of the decade and is rightfully top. also nice to see interpol in there.

but beyond any doubt, any list which doesnt feature bloc party's silent alarm, or any queens of the stone age material at all, is utter garbage.

also agree killers hot fuss should be in there...

not sure about the obsession with libertines/babyshambles, two of the most overrated and sh1tty bands i've ever heard of
Report thetitan November 18, 2009 9:43 AM GMT
and nobody in their right mind would have white stripes/elephant at 18, after the strokes/is this it, elephant probably the most influential rock album of the decade.

I agree that it's probably an exercise in futility naming a definitive list over a decade.
For obvious reasons.
On that understanding, giving a snapshot of what that list might be (today) is diverting.
I like a lot of anubis' list.

1. Goldfrapp - Black Cherry (probably the only truly successful album to fuse their pastoral side and their dirty side)
2. White stripes - White Blood Cells (a simply extraordinary rock record)
3. Hooverphonic - President of the LSD golf Club (imagine Brian Wilson joins the cocteau Twins)
4. Blood Red Shoes - Box of Secrets (cathartic 'scream at your frustrations' album of the decade)
5. Siobhan Donaghy - Ghosts (transcends her pop past. frequently thrilling)
6. Paramore - Riot (just wish hayley Williams would cut out the dumb Americanisms when she can write stuff with depth)
7. Frankmuzik - Complete Me (Great electro pop, an arrogant control freak but what a talent)
8. White stripes - Elephant ('black math' and 'hardest button' explode)
9. Mediaeval Baebes - Mirabilis (Took them 6 years but finally got it right!)
10. Starsailor - On the Outside (cos you have to have some anthemic rock in there somewhere)
