How much is 340mm? Don't really understand these new-fangled metric measurements.
Report zilzal1 November 20, 2009 10:29 AM GMT
34CM :-)
Report man of many moods November 20, 2009 10:31 AM GMT
Ok. So CM is Roman numerals for 900. What do I do? Multiply that by that 34 or divide it or what?
Report zilzal1 November 20, 2009 10:34 AM GMT
Its about 1 foot and 1 1/2 inches
Report man of many moods November 20, 2009 10:44 AM GMT
:) Thanks. That's quite a lot. We could do with some of that here. 113 reservoirs on the island and they're all empty.

Well I'm from the UK Coach, which hasn't gone metric yet so neither have I. All the road signs are in Miles and you can still buy a Pint of beer.
Report Coachbuster November 20, 2009 11:15 AM GMT
...but youre a Euroman of moods now ,so you of all people should be familiar with it all . ;)

Easy to work these things out anyway , the average male is around 175- 180cm , so go from there really. :)
Report man of many moods November 20, 2009 11:16 AM GMT
Beer is sold in pints here too :)
Report Coachbuster November 20, 2009 11:18 AM GMT
Only one i use is miles, cant think of any other exceptions .

A pint to me is 568 ml ,most cartons and bottles you buy tend to be 500ml ,even the milk i buy is in litres i notice .

although if i'm in the pub i just ask for a pint as i would get funny looks otherwise :D

my neighbor annoys me , if i say its 28c today she has to say 'whats that ? around 77f i think ' i'm sure she does it to be delibarately obtuse ,as if she doesnt know its 82f.

So i say to her now, why try to convert it ?, 28 is 28 ,thats all you need to know , when you go into a shop and they say 67p you dont ask them 'whats that in farthings and feckin shillings?' :)

The only metric measurement I'm familiar with is centigrade temperatures. I can relate to that as much as I can to fahrenheit. But metric weights and measures are still meaningless to me. It's not something I've deliberately resisted. It's just that none of it's sunk in yet. You need to give these new inventions time...
Report Coachbuster November 20, 2009 11:51 AM GMT
lol momm ,theyre actually a lot easier to understand as they're in units of 10 :D
Report man of many moods November 20, 2009 12:01 PM GMT
If I ask for 2lbs of tomatoes I know exactly what I want. If I had to convert that to...kilos is it?...I'd have to get out my slide rule and log book to convert it. How is that easier?
