Been overpaid at work (new job).
Not quite done a full month so guess they ought to have taken a month's salary and taken off the difference.
They seemed to have added it....

Also, seemed to have paid very little tax (tax code is right)

Net is i've got double that I was expecting.

I've gotta tell 'em haven't I....? They'll suss it one day, surely.

Why tell em?

Your not an accountant are you?

Tax codes etc are a minefield of misinfomation so i'd just play dumb.

put it to one side for 6 months. If no word then surely you have grounds for palusible denial if they ever do bring it up. I suppose its all about how strict they are. I was overpaid by about 1.5 K in a month once as my relocation package was f**cked up a bit. I never heard a thing about it

They might pay a full month when you join and take it back when you leave.

The tax will be sorted by the tax office in time.

Say nothing but don't spend the extra yet.

Hardly a dilemma, just ask if the salary paid is correct as you're not sure. If it is great, if not then it is deducted next time either way you come across as a good egg and have lost nothing that you were entitled to in the first place.

Tell them, they might have done it delibarately to test your honesty. Then again they might not have. :|

just thinking...pay day is 20th (i.e. tomorrow) but if pay period is 1st-31st then it's probably right as i started on 26th October.
in other words they pay from 1st-end of month but pay it on 20th

yeehaa!!!

Depends how efficient your payroll / wages dept are. If its a tin pot run outfit they could have made geniune error and your safe. If however its a larger company and they use SAGE or similiar to process wages they might well catch up with you in due course.

you will get caught out on your P60

do you really need to be a thief?

thats the problem with overpayments in tax credit, hardly any of it was HMRC's fault, it was more the fault of the claimants not being compliant, just like YOU

I'm criminally underpaiid - so if you just give me the cash it will redress the balance in the grand scheme of things and you'll sleep easier.

well fair enough, it will be lost next time, so don't spend the overpayment

don't think they'll care if he came across as a "good egg"

Punter, in my experience having worked for Spanish companies for the last 7 years or so, being known as a "good egg" is absolutely invaluable in the salaries department.
