Police have released CCTV footage of a blind woman's guide dog being savaged by a terrier-type dog at a railway station.

The attack happened as the 57-year-old woman walked through Cricklewood station, in north-west London.

British Transport Police appealed to anyone with information about the attack which took place at about 1330 on 4 October.

Police said: "This dog was not muzzled and was dangerously out of control."

Safety fears

That Sunday afternoon, the woman passed a man drinking a can of beer in an underpass who was with the dog at his feet.

The unleashed dog ran towards her and attacked her brown Labrador.

The owner kicked and punched his dog in a bid to stop the attack.

The Labrador was left needing emergency veterinary care for deep puncture wounds to its neck.

"The woman was extremely distressed and feared for her own safety," Pc Gerry Griffin said.

"What made this awful incident even more harrowing was the fact that the man made no effort to assist her or to check that she was all right once the attack was over.

"The owner would do well to hand himself in as his animal poses a clear danger to other dogs and to the public."

The man was described by police as white, in his mid to late-20s, around 5ft 11ins and of slim build.

He had a cropped beard and brownish to red hair which was cut short and was wearing black tracksuit bottoms and a grey top.

Why did the terrier attack the guide dog?
Was it jealous just because the latter had a good job and he had low self esteem being owned by a wino?

I dunno i was confronted by one the other day which was a staffy with no muzzle on it.Walking through the park like ,theres not alot you can do apart from give off a good vibe which the dog picks up as his sixth sense.I shouted for his name which was given ,he was fine i used his name on him to put him at ease.he ran along with no problem but its not very nice when its bombing at you at about a million miles an hour and you dont know what it is going to do.
