I agree with your statement yeahyeahwhatever, which is why a lot of men don't take women so seriously because of that exact behaviour you have mentioned

you definitely have to make some kind of N.I. contribution even if you have the year off

if you don't tell hmrc anything next year, you find in say 3 years time, you'd get a letter from HMRC saying you haven't contributed anything in the year 2009-2010 NI wise, and they'd ask for so much off you, maybe £200? it varies

so do tell HMRC that you're gonna have a year off work and not go on "the dole", you don't want to get any surprises
