you're doing alright collectively - 28 out of 30. And these are the hardest two. One very well known forumite and one just well known.
In DT, they often give you what "con" means (in this clue) and then you enter "con". don't know if that makes sense. basically the clue and answer or normally the other way round to the way i have it this time.

i'm happy to explain any if you wish dk. as i said before, it doesn't matter how smart (or stupid) you are, cryptic crosswords are nigh on impossible if you don't know the rules, and it is nigh on impossible to learn the rules without anyone telling you. I was lucky enough to have a mother who does cryptics and taught me many of these (admittedly v. daft on a number of occasions) rules. Could maybe get one or two right when i first started DT crossword about 13 years ago. Now I finish it about 50 percent of the time.

Numbers 1,3,4,5,8,9,11,12,14,18,19,23,25,26 and 29 are ones I can't decipher, even knowing who the forumite is. Poor I know. I dare say if I got into cryptic clues I'd slowly become better. Could you explain just three of those numbers? Would be grateful. Thanks rob :)

Evens is club SLB (Even numbered letters of "is club". A bit sh.it this one as the sentence didn't really make any sense aside from the cryptic bit)
"Polly" singers in ecstasy NIRVANA (Another pretty cr.ap one. Polly was a song by NIrvana, and Nirvana means ecstasy)
Soldier pulls loudly TOMMY TOES (Soldier = Tommy, pulls = tows, loudly indicates that it sounds like "tows", though not necessarily spelt that way)

Aaah, they sound so simple when they're explained. I can see them easily now. :^0
Thanks again rob.
Was once a time when there were a few cryptic quizzes about, and one person got them with absolute ease it seemed. Either Andy Murray, liamcol or gleeman, or a quizzer rarely seen. Very impressive whoever it was.

As I said, I think Ken is v.good at them. As is sparky. And according to this thread, though I hadnt noticed before, so are Andy Murray and Paddy Mayne

Ken Masters is very sharp. Not an eager quizzer though it would seem. In the first Pass It On quiz he picked up points quite well for not being online a lot (assume he comes on at work, while the PIO thread saw more action during the evenings).
And that's just reminded me of Parallel Flange Channels. :^0

that was my question dk!!! That really made me, and everyone else i think, laugh. He was in there like a flash, was a v.quick answerer, shame he doesn't bother with quizzes anymore. That first one to 100 quiz was great fun, I think people really enjoyed it thoughit took over some peoples lives for 10 days or so. The second one just didn't take off for some reason, I resurrected it at the weekend and still no interest.

I love that he almost definitely knew it because of its rude connotation, rather than because he knows construction terms. I half-expected him to get it IIRC!! Excellent.

PaddyMayne - con = study (a meaning of the word con = to get to know, to study, especially by repetition), and Found = Form = (as in the verbs to found = to form)
for 30, I am trying to think if there is a forumite called BackOrLay or something similar. can't think of any tictac for the odds equivalent of 2.59 or 1.58. is it around 13/8?

Thanks billy.. I have never heard that definition before! Just looked it up, and to be fair it does say 'archaic' ! :D

I will post the answer before 10pm tonight. No doubt to a chorus of boos, though I thought it was a good one. Not Guardian/Independent/Times class imo, but there you go.
