I believe Tommy's a frequent user.

Whether he knows anything about Tesco I'm not sure.

& make sure you choose the option not to substitute the cheap offers as their usual trick is to say they are out of stock and replace them with the more expensive items ;)
Report Money Treeee November 17, 2009 9:17 PM GMT
they come off the bill when its delivered

its because you may have picked an offer that ends today, but if you get ir delivered tomorow the offer would have finished

dont worry i order online all the time and never had any problems, just check the date the offer ends if you are using them

Report Tommy Toes November 17, 2009 9:24 PM GMT
I can confirm all the above is true.
The amount will be deducted on your deliverey invoice.
I'm a big user of Tesco Online and think its's a brilliant service.

Report Tommy Toes November 17, 2009 9:37 PM GMT
I always post on individual perishable goods: 'longest sell by please' and have no problem, Coach.

You can leave a note, with any item you order. It's very useful, eg size of carrots, whiteness of pickled onions and the above.

Report Tommy Toes November 17, 2009 9:50 PM GMT
They do, Sparkster!
They even gave me their own personal 'inner sanctum' dot com telephone number!
Report sparkmaster. November 17, 2009 9:51 PM GMT
is it a telephone number or a dot com?
Report Tommy Toes November 17, 2009 9:51 PM GMT
No, very white, smallish, pickled onions, thanks.

!
Report Tommy Toes November 17, 2009 9:54 PM GMT
They call the online service 'dot com' at Longton.
I can 'phone straight through to them about any queries rather than go through the national 'phone number helpline.
They're brilliant in there (Longton) and always do me proud with any problem I've ever had.
Report sparkmaster. November 17, 2009 9:55 PM GMT
Surely pickled onions...I mean...you're buying a jar, they don't come loose. Do you imagine they look in all the jars of the brand you've ordered and try to work which has the smallest and whitest?
Report Tommy Toes November 17, 2009 9:56 PM GMT
Well, that's what I do!
So far, it looks like they do too!
Report Tommy Toes November 17, 2009 9:57 PM GMT
As I said earlier, it's a brilliant service.

Report Tommy Toes November 17, 2009 10:00 PM GMT
Funnily enough, I had an e-mail earlier asking me to take part in a survey about their online service.
I gave them top marks on every category.

"Alright lads, another order. It's come over the phone from Mr Toes. Definitely better we gave him the number as last time he tried to order online we lost aisles 7-10. Anyway, he wants a 700g box of Kellogg's cornflakes.............oh wait there's some more, he wants the edges to br crinkly but not THAT crinkly"

Very funny Sparky!

Coach, I detest shopping and the local Tesco store to me wouldn't be able to offer even half the range of the goods I can get online.

The time spent trawling along the aisles, loading the goods on the conveyor belt, packing the shopping, loading it into a taxi, then unloading it and unpacking it, would, I reckon, take me about a 4 hour trip and £9 taxi charge.

With the online site, I can get fresher produce that I'd never get at the local store, far more selection, and all I have to do is put it away. Saving me all those hours and at the very least, £3 (out of the £9) even if I order a delivery at the dearest slot.
Most of the time, it only costs about £3.50.

It's just the best thing I've ever done online.
Report sparkmaster. November 17, 2009 10:14 PM GMT
Not better than stoketwinks.com surely?

Report Coachbuster November 17, 2009 10:19 PM GMT
Tommy, supermarkets can be a bit of a menace when time is against you .

I like to get out of the house once every blue moon though :D
Report Tommy Toes November 17, 2009 10:19 PM GMT
Joe, that's a very good point.

With the online site you can go straight to your 'favourites' so avoid overspending on unnecessary items you might be tempted by when you're walking around a shop.
Of course, you can still access special offers, but if you don't want to, you don't have to.
I really can't praise the service highly enough.
Report Tommy Toes November 17, 2009 10:21 PM GMT
Good point Coach!
But you probably wouldn't want to bother with Tesco Hanley!
Report mafeking November 17, 2009 10:21 PM GMT
dunno who in their right mind would do their shopping with everyone else at the supermarket.
Report Rachrose November 17, 2009 10:21 PM GMT
One thing that happens alot which is frustrating is when a customer has ordered 1 item of a buy 1 get 1 free deal. obviously assuming we'd then put 2 in the basket. but if the customer has selected just 1 that's all we can scan. if we put 2 in it would then be eventually registered as missing stock. So if you see a buy1 get one free ask for 2!!

nopeeeeee. the bosses know if you have sub'd something that was instock and u get a bollocking for it if u havnt gone and looked. as there bosses give them strict percentages on all of that shlt :)
Report Tommy Toes November 17, 2009 10:29 PM GMT
Rachrose, the site tells you to order 2 if it's a 2 for 1 offer, so they only have themselves to blame if they don't do so.

Ethical question

Does one tip the delivery driver?
Report Tommy Toes November 17, 2009 10:36 PM GMT
Not in Stoke.
Report sparkmaster. November 17, 2009 10:37 PM GMT
That's the tip...
Report Rachrose November 17, 2009 10:39 PM GMT
would seem unfair to tip the drivers when the people who actually picked your shop and sometimes routed through the walk in freezers and fridges in the warehouse just to find your choc cornettos dont benefit. The drivers have merely cruised around listening to their tunes and lifted a box to your door.
Report G1_Jockey_4 November 17, 2009 10:40 PM GMT
what are the delivery slots like?
within a certain hour or 2 hours etc?
Report Tommy Toes November 17, 2009 10:41 PM GMT
Funnily enough, the last couple of Christmas deliveries I've had I wanted to tip the driver, but on both occasions, some unknown women, who weren't as strong as chip shop vinegar, who just dumped it on the step has delivered.
Not the 'usual' blokes who come during the year and always offer to bring it in the kitchen - so no tip from me.

I always think about the staff actually picking the order, as they're the ones doing the donkey work.
From my experience, they're brilliant.
I even had one bloke 'phone me up as he was in the wine department looking for what I'd ordered and telling me about the state of play.

thats refreshing to read tommy toes. we NEVER get any positive feedback from customers, just regular complaints about a slight dent on a tin, when we figure you'd rather have that then none if it's the last left and 1 of the 10 apples having a little bruise on it. and even complaining things they ordered didnt arrive when you have a clear memory of having got that item. im enjoying this, it saves on ever needing a shrink.
Report Tommy Toes November 17, 2009 11:02 PM GMT
Rachrose, I LOVE Tesco dotcom!
- and on the infrequent occasions I've had to 'phone them about a query, I've always told them how much I appreciate their help/service, as they've always sorted it out double pronto.

I'm a firm believer in praising people when they're good - and not just whinging when things aren't as they suit you.
99% of the time (I would imagine) it's the customer's fault for not being specific in their requests.
That's what the 'leave a note' thing is there for.
