Was just reading that Jack Vance - the great Sci-Fi author - was blinded by botched laser eye surgery. This was a few decades ago.

I had it done a couple of years back. Had the full works, both eyes, Lasik and Wavefront. The result was perfect 20/20 vision. Couldn't be happier.

Rustyboy ,
A tiny tiny chance of you going 'blind' . I'm closely related to the industry and haven't come across anyone who has as a result of it. Best advice is to be fully aware from your Optician / Consultant of what to expect afterwards . You more than likely will still need specs afterwards or in time (depending on your age) for reading - does that defeat the purpose for you ? Have even come across a few who have needed specs full-time again though after just a few years .

I know an old lady who had laser eye surgery, £500 on each eye, she loved it

she's retired since, but I'd love to sh@g her, not seen her for a couple of years

Got mine done by Optimax in Finchley Road in 1996. Absolutely no problems. Go for it.!!!

i'd consider it - currently spend about 300/year on contact lenses. lenses are fine i supose but would be great not to have to worry about anything like that at all.

surely you would just get one eye done at a time so that if they fek up the first one you don't take the risk on the second one.

Had both done at same time Jan 2008.

DROVE HOME from Solihull to Doncaster an hour or two later.

I'm hardcore and its my best £1800 spent ever.

Agree, in the same way you should never trust a skinny chef.

Wife had it done, said it hurt like hell (due to astigmatism) and that was the top range laser treatment at £1.5k / eye.

Boss at work had a lucky escape, was prescribed wrong treatment but didn't know until the machine broke and had to go to a different clinic who pointed it out.

The videos on youtube make me feel a bit ill.

Possibly as Laser Surgery , even though being suitable for most people it isn't always the best option for everyone and opticians would know this and wouldn't be 'talked into' having it done. Cost of specs / contact lenses not an issue as they would be free to optician whereas laser surgery wouldn't be

wife had it done 18 months ago. interest free credit so last payment believe it or not today :-) 2k. wavefront etc. if you are going to get it done worth paying the extra for best available. she has had absolutely no problems apart from the fact that now when she wakes up inthe morning she can see exactly what i look like ;-)
