Mrs G wants a new big tele. What's the difference (ignore price) between these types? I remember LCD being all the rage then plasma came out and people said they were better for games because LCD left shadows. Are LEDs the best quality now, or what?

Plasma best for films, LCD good for sports and computer games. lED good all rounder and exceptionally thin. If you have'nt seen one, you will be gobsmacked at how thin they are.
If you get an LCD, you need one with 100Hz for smoothness in sports, but that is common now. Plasmas do not suffer from burn in like they used to. You do get slight image retention, but it disappears a short while after you have changed channels. LED's nice, but currently quite expensive. Anything else you need to know? |

i have 42" in plasma in living room (panasonic viera) - great TV...
have 26" LCD LG in bedroom - mainly for gaming... |

Maybe treble. So, the LCDs are "better" than the plasmas then?
Looks like LED is the best if you're rolling in money like me though? |

Yes LED's are the choice of you have more money.
They have better PQ. LCD TV's have a uniform backlight covering the whole screen. This can lead to unevenness and lack of detail in certain scenes with hgh contrast. however the LED's use local dimming, which means they dim different parts of the screen depending on what is being displayed. Therefore, making it a much better picture. get yourself down to the local Richer Sounds for a test drive. |

I saw the worlds first OLED TV in sony centre the other day (Derby).
Must have been about 10" across. Cost? £3499! Three and half grand FFS! Picture was ok, but not helped by the fact it was a SD freeview picture shared between every TV there. |

Oh, and LED TVs are a con, its only the backlight that is LED, big whoop.
