it has been bugging me for days and when I ask people they just say "dunno"

without even putting any thought into it

my question, you ready?

Flight from UK to Hong Kong leaves at 11am

gets into HK at 7am

At what point if any during the flight would I see day light?

Or would I not?

how many hours in and how long for?

Thanks

You'll get about 45 mins of dawn and daylight just before you land.
Report munch man November 14, 2009 3:41 PM GMT
If HK is 8 hours ahead of the UK, flying east I think you would begin to see daylight about three hours into your flight. 2am UK time.
Report munch man November 14, 2009 3:42 PM GMT
you'll be landing in HK late afternoon HK time.
Report 8sid November 14, 2009 3:43 PM GMT

i said AM

only mistake what what will i see, i want to know when I SEE NIGHT TIME

IF AT ALL

OR WHAT TIME AND HOE LONG FOR
Report munch man November 14, 2009 3:52 PM GMT
You will see very little night sky imo. perhaps a couple hours of twilight
Report man of many moods November 14, 2009 3:52 PM GMT
It'll start to get dark 3 or 4 hours into the flight and you'll see the sunrise just before you land. Well, the pilot will anyway.
Report Jim Hensen November 14, 2009 3:53 PM GMT
Assuming a direct flight at 12 hours, departing at 11 am uk time then it is daylight when you leave, and will darken after approx 2.5-3 hours, and then morning would break again about an 45 mins to an hour before you land. good flight times imo. well picked.
Report man of many moods November 14, 2009 3:55 PM GMT

LOL
Report rupertthebear November 14, 2009 3:58 PM GMT
Stop worrying and analysing, just sit back, relax, have a few beers, a few beers more, then another beer and enjoy the flight.
Report 8sid November 14, 2009 3:58 PM GMT
Im not convinced ANYBODY actually knows

i also think it is a very good question
Report man of many moods November 14, 2009 4:01 PM GMT
Myself and the muppet man have given you the correct info Sid. It's not difficult to work out. You're travelling East and sunrise in Hong Kong is about 6.30 at the moment.
Report 8sid November 14, 2009 4:04 PM GMT
so you think within 3/4 hours it will be dark?

just cant happen
Report man of many moods November 14, 2009 4:13 PM GMT
Well Sid, it's a 4 and half flight from London to Cyprus where I am. It gets dark here about 4.30 local time at the moment. 2 hour time difference. So if you leave the UK at 11am (1pm here) it'll start to get dark 3 and half to 4 hours into the flight.
Report 8sid November 14, 2009 4:14 PM GMT
MOMM

thank you

you have convinced me

and how long will stay pitch dark for?
Report man of many moods November 14, 2009 4:18 PM GMT
For the remainder of the flight I'm afraid. Sunrise will be about half an hour before you land.
Report Jim Hensen November 14, 2009 4:23 PM GMT
mmom and myself are 100% correct methodology, and @ say 90-95% accurate in timings.

if your trying to avoid jetlag, then adjust meals as well as sleep to suit. so eat your eveining meal on just after getting on plane, get a few beers down you, and try to sleep 4 or 5 hours in. they will wake you for breakfast at around 5 am HK time, and you will land at 7 am. thats how I do it anyway.
Report evski November 14, 2009 4:26 PM GMT
at this time of year you would take off at 23:00 it would be dark. after 4.5 hours it would be about getting light. it would emain light until you land at 19:00 local time.

if you set off at 11:00 it would be light when you leave, depending on the time of year and direction flown it would get dark after about 6-7 hours and remain dark almost until you land at 07:00 the next day
Report 8sid November 14, 2009 4:26 PM GMT
yeh im gonna be wrecked before and during flight
Report punterfleecer November 14, 2009 4:43 PM GMT
it gets dark at 4.30pm in cyprus??
Report man of many moods November 14, 2009 4:46 PM GMT
Well, depends on the time of year really :)

But sunset was at 16:40 today.
