Hi

My car tax runs out at the end of November. So i went to renew today but they refused as my insurance and MOT are due for renewal next month.

I have no chance of getting it ready for MOT so was wondering whats the best route here?

thanks

that's complete bullsh!t.

if you have current insurance and MOT they should issue you with one. when does it expire?

he's correct - they reject the application if the other documents are not also valid when the tax is required. Been there - done that :(

that's bloody annoying and unlucky in that case. get 6 months worth of tax next time then 12 months thereafter to stop it happening every year.

failing that just get the car motd innit

Tax expires - 31 Nov

MOT expires - 7 Dec

Insurance Expires - 20 Dec

why would u tax it if it wont pass its mot 7 days later?
Report Ivor November 14, 2009 12:18 PM GMT
I did just that Gash. Did a 6-month tax once to shift it completely away from the other hurdles.

Are you sure your tax expires on November 31st.

Your MOT renewal date is preserved if you get it through the test within four weeks of the date. So do the MOT now, then tax it. Nothing lost.

His car is farked it won't get an Mot.

Stick it in on a day off, then if it fails ask what the quote is. Book a week off work if you really can't make it there on foot or with public transport. It's a sh1tter, but a hurdle that life throws most of us.

Do it online via the reminder they sent i the post. this only checks to see if it is currently MOT'd and insured on the database. I'm certain it does not forward check. All my tax/mot/insurance/service falls withing the same week, and I have no problems.

The same database also links to the odd lot and so they know if your not taxed, mot'd or insured. so your risk limitation is flawed imo.

Get it mot'd, and then tax it imo. if it is going to be uneconomical then you can trade/acution it with the little remaining tax and ticket.

If it passes an mot and your short of cash to tax it you can, nudge nudge wink wink, dirve it for a week or so and if you get stopped you must advise that the tax is in the post. once you have posted the app form and payment you are allowed to drive. say this and then dont follow through with the payment in the post and your getting a fine, once it goes through then your fine.
