Can someone explain where this hole comes from, mathematically? Been bugging me for a while now.

What munch man means is that the hypotenuse is not a straight line check the angles both triangles meet.

there is only number of each colour in each house.

If you coloured the numbers in the houses with the colours from the earlier screen you would see that each colour appears only once in each house, therefore effectively by providing the colour and the house, you're telling the little shockwave application which number you picked.
