Currently have a cable connection from home and use Virgin media as an ISP
If i buy a laptop and take to a friends who doesnt use virgin media ,can i still get connection on my laptop ...and furthermore ,can 2 laptops (mine and theirs ) be used at the same time ?
Yes, easiest if you just take an ethernet cable and plug it straight into their router, then you won't have to faanny round getting the wireless to work.

Ken, if i just click on Firefox ...will i get an instant connection ?
...and i guess the connection would be through their ISP ? Would it upset their connection then if they were also online ?

You'll probably need to type in a 16-character password, but after that, you're always a click away after you've established the initial link.

I use my laptop wirelessly in my parents' house - on BT. When I went to my brother's I clicked on 'Connect', clicked on his router, then clicked on the Chrome shortcut and I was on. His internet is with Sky.
Laptops can be 'independent' if that's what you're asking. :)
You're welcome Coach.
