Plagued with them. Always a female voice prerecorded message saying "Congratulations!" then telling me I've been specially selected etc etc. I don't listen to the rest of it and just put the phone down, so I don't know what it is they want me to do, but it's an obvious scam and the conmen operating it should be banned, imo.

Anyone else get these?

i think they should. wait a few seconds then it asks you to press '9' or whatever to be put through to an operator.. i always press the number then put the phone on the side (or you can ask them to 'just wait one sec')

if they are going to waste my time i'll waste theirs

I got a call today, answered and it rung off. Did 1471 and it said the number was "00000000".

I think ALL premium rate phone numbers should be banned, all unsolicited calls should be banned, "you were called" should be banned, and everyone's number (mobile included) should be registered.

Aceofspades. I would advise against pressing the '9' button as you may well find that you have chosen to connect to a premium-rate line. I think that is how the 'scam' works. :(

Mrs F (enters room, phone in hand): "They say they've heard you had a car accident and would like to help"
Me: "Tell 'em to fook off"
Mrs F (into phone): "He says fook off" (puts phone down).

She can be endearingly naive at times.

I just start off talking normally then enter 'strange' mode e.g. asking them if they like Baked Beans for their tea etc, eventually they hang up.
