In the past 20 years, I've only seen one that I thought was an improvement (Tennent's bar, Glasgow). Most of the rest have been expensive disaters. Pubs that used to have two or three bars have had all the walls knocked in and been converted into open plan air hangers. Does this happen in your area?

I am only 31yo. i grew up in pubs, proper old style pubs, country pubs mainly. In my naivety I honestly thought they'd always be the same, on the contrary. They are universally sh.t now. Bistro pub w.ank holes full of w.ankers.

give it a few years and they will be paying again to recreate traditiona pubs that won't quite be the same.

luckily enough i live in a village with 2 pubs, and both of them are as close as you get these days to proper pubs. one of them doesn't even have a fkin bar, the beer is served out of the cellar. it will never change, and the brewerey will never sell it. but i'd buy it tomorrow if i had money and they'd sell it. just 2 sticking points unfortunately.

They've slowly realized they can make more money selling food than drink so 9/10 pubs have gone down the gastro route. A lot of bars you are treated as a second class citizen ordering just a drink and are given about 1/10th of the establishment to drink in.
