Runs in Gold Cup.
|
By:
Corach Rambler was last seen running an encouraging race to be third in the Betfair Chase but trainer Lucinda Russell feels he would have too much weight to carry in the Ultima at Cheltenham, the race he won prior to success in the National, so the Gold Cup represents a better route.
Russell told WiIliam Hill: "Corach Rambler is in flying form and seems very well in himself. He'll go straight to the Gold Cup and we'll look to get a racecourse gallop into him before that like we did last year. |

main danger to the fav

The easiest way to do the gold cup, grandnational double is to win the national first, has the weight won’t then be an issue.
It’s ran on twice to win the ultimate in last 2 festivals, gold cup 2 f longer, It dosent seem to win before Xmas, looks to have every chance. |
By:
Given only 2 horses have ever done that double, and one of those is among the all time greats, there isn't an easy way to do it.
|
By:
It beat fastorslow, that beat galophin twice,so it’s no no hoper.
Its style of running ,held up comes late, will suit the extra 2f. Like I said, has every chance. |
By:
Well overpriced. Best e/w play in the race. Dont think he will be ridden to win the race. But hunt round to pick up the pieces late on when all those who have been put to the sword to battle with Galopin have fallen by the wayside. As CUTH has stated loves the track/form in the book with Fastorslow yet 3 times the price. As Kate Bush said he will be running up that hill No Problem.
|
By:
should go well geoff have backed it ew , backed it a few times so could say i have followed it over a heathcliff!
|
By:
seriously tho some would be put off that corach rambler has taken the handicap route but lucinda has got easy few runs into him ready to peak for the spring he could be a lot better than we think ,will stay has top course form and pished up in the national could still be more improvement to come and no suprise to me if he puts it up to front few .
|
By:
I backed him at a big price, but this season has been a write-off. He's a strong stayer, but I doubt he has the ability to stay in touch, and land a telling blow. More than likely it will be a case of staying on, but never dangerous. It doesn't help his cause that the favourite is a strong stayer, and has more class.
|
By:
I think Geoff & DD both make excellent points here - CR will be given a "pick up the pieces" ride, and strong stayers ridden like that often place in the Gold Cup as those ridden to win fall away. But DD is right that Galopin is such a strong stayer, CR won't beat him by outstaying him.
Therefore, CR is an attractive bet e/w or in the without the favourite market. |
By:
When just looking back over his form , what i had forgot is that he is 3 from 3 @ Cheltenham having won hcap chase as a novice.
|
By:
he comes out roughly the same horse as fastorslow was getting a few pound n the ultima but seemed to idle close home and was nearly caught by fastorslow possible he has a fair bit more to come , idled could mean he just did enough and could have pulled a bit more out ,we will see but at 20s you have the ew 3 places option and the fav may well win but could be we havent seen this horses limit yet and he has not had hard races this season .
|
By:
I've backed him for an Aintree repeat in April (nrnb) - epic boost (double odds). I hope he'd oblige.
|
By:
the handicapper has finally caught up with corrach
|
By:
I think that was said of Tiger Roll when he won it a 2nd time. He's been put up a few lbs but I think he was idling infront last time; he ran a good race last time out.
|
By:
Ive backed ew for gold cup and to win the GN ( sometime a go)
|
By:
No way has Corach Rambler ever been a Gold Cup class horse. He might stay on to be fourth or something like that. He won the Ultima and the Grand National off 146 and was raised to 159. That is 21lb behind Galopin and he is probably not capable of winning anything off more than 150 imo.
|
By:
Sage, tactics are hugely important in the Gold Cup, for placed horses as well as winners. Strong stayers often stay on to place, especially if they aren't really put in the race in the first place. The "best" horses (those trying to win) are put into the race and crack one by one, while the stayers pick up the pieces (see Noble **** last year, but there are plenty of them over the years). The way he is ridden, I can easily see Corach Rambler placing, maybe even 2nd. But it would be a strange renewal were he to win it.
|
By:
I could see that strontium as several of the field might not stay but can he stay in contact for the first 2 miles?
|
By:
Fair point Sage, though Noble **** was miles behind last year before staying on to 4th. And Sychronised won the thing.
|
By:
Surely being 4th is "Gold Cup Class"? I would agree that he is not Gold Cup winning class. But who knows? Funnier things have happened.
|
By:
Some pretty average horses have finished fourth in a Gold Cup. Horses fall, make bad mistakes and pull up, run well below form, fail to stay etc. I can see CR being a distant fourth as could most of the field. Nassalam and The Real Whacker are 2 more that are below the required standard on all known form but could be ridden for third or fourth.
|
By:
it depends if we have seen the best of corach rambler yet i am not saying he will win but have had a few quid on ew but these type get labeled as a" handicaper " for obvious reasons but go back a few years and a certain galopin des champs was winning a handicap here ,granted he has proved himself top class but but ya gotta start somewhere and we dont yet know the pinicle of this ones ability !
|
By:
Minnehoma did it the other way around to Corach Rambler. He finished 4th then went on to win the National.
We know some very average horses have finished 4th in it. We also know that horses fall in it. And please enlighten us as to what the "required standard" is? |
By:
the ultima win beating a certain fastorslow who was giving corach 4 pound is not looking too shabby and yes fastorslow has improved since then but corach has hardly gone backwards winning a national !
|
By:
Rhyme 'N' Reason ran in the Gold Cup and then won The National.
|
By:
Rough Quest wasnt he 4th in a gold cup before national win?
|
By:
Second to Imperial Call
|
By:
Soft bordering on heavy ground will bring his proven stamina right into play. Ridden cold reckon hes a knocking e/w bet @20s & probably 12s w/out Galopin being the best of the 2 options.
|
By:
cheers Brandy.
|
By:
I think L'Homme Presse likes the soft. If Galopin Des Champs runs below par the forgotten horse Gerri Colombe and L'Homme Presse could prosper.
|
By:
LHP got a form boost from Protektorat.

Corach being well backed on here last hour or so. 21 into 15.5
