am i correct in thinking thats years price for  what in reality is the silver ring? i had a pitch there for several  years, wouldn't want  one nowadays. exes  6x57 for the badge+youself and  2 worker  =3x57. so 513 plus  her racecourse exes  , at least another 250 a day   digs  grub etc, so  with parking /fuel  probably in the hole for 900 a day!!good luck   winning from that position over the week!!  at least the racing  use to be competitive unlike this diluted product that exists now

Jcr are in big debt they have basically ran a poor show for many years chasing race goers away ,Cheltenham bales the rest of them out to a certain extent so the charge these prices ,not realising many many regulars for 30 years plus are now choosing to go to Tenerife or Benidorm and having a holiday without the all round hassle of the festival with outrageous prices on hotels taxis and everything else ,also many have now chosen leopardstown instead due to the cost of entry and all the free entertainment and transport provided by leopardstown.

It won’t belong before the goose that lays the golden egg stops laying !

Correct, Jimnast. Though Leopardstown has massively jacked up the price since covid. These people can't help themselves.

Good morning strontium

Can’t remember what I paid at the first Dublin festival or for that matter any of them ,next week will be the first time we haven’t bought seats so it’s easy to remember it’s 60 euro for two days that’s less than the £57 you would pay for one day in the best mate which is absolutely incredible.

I feel we get great value at leopardstown hey make a real effort to get people there free buses from naas, heuston station and other places plus sandyford tram stop ,for those unable to get up the hill from where the buses drop of they provide golf buggies, thankfully unnecessary for me and my wife but who knows the maybe in the future, the entertainment is well balanced the viewing all round is very good my only criticism which could easily be solved is more toilets.

For me and many the meeting worked from day one but backed to the original point 60 euro 2 days with access to the parade ring and winners enclosure or £57 for one day in the middle of a racecourse simply mind boggling.

On another note which is no fault of Cheltenham racecourse £100 per night for bang average hotel rooms become north of £500 per night festival week ,I will be paying the same price next weekend than I would at any other time of the year in Dublin,Cheltenham taxis festival week are a total rip off an example is a taxi to Worcester today would be around £40 maximum probably cheaper yet £120 festival week,as I say that’s no fault of the racecourse but perhaps the local council could do something about what’s going on with the hotels and taxis

Hi Jimnast,

Yes, I've been to the majority of the DRFs, and it's a wonderful meeting, and they really look after the racegoers. I also normally buy a seat there. It's now E90 per day though (up from E40, I think, for the first DRF), so they too are hiking the prices (still far less than a grandstand seat at the Cheltenham Festival of course). You still get the lack of toilets issue at Leopardstown!

I also agree with you entirely about Cheltenham, and it's why I haven't been back to the festival since covid. I could tolerate the membership fee + £100 per day for a seat in the Grandstand/access to the members' bar. But I drew the line at paying £300+ a night for hotel accommodation on top of that. Now, I can sit in the warm and dry with beer at £1 a can from the corner shop and access to my laptop, and see far more on TV than I would on course. At the same time, saving £500 a day. It's a shame in some ways, but everybody has a limit of what they can/will pay, and mine has been passed.

Yes strontium the seats have jumped up a lot in price at leopardstown part of the reason I’ve chosen not to buy them this year also I felt we were spending to much time getting to and from the seats ,on top of that the wife is only really interested in having a bet so the seats are wasted.

We found a lovely area to spend time in and have some food on the Saturday but bizarrely it doesn’t open on the Sunday

It’s obviously cheaper not to go and watch on TV but I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Just getting to Cheltenham at 11am on the Tuesday is like Xmas morning. We are taking a friend of mine who is 83 years old to the Cheltenham Festival as it’s always been on his bucket list. After many years you learn by trial and error how to get in and out of the track, best location to get drinks and food and watch the festival. We charge £340 per day for taxis, accommodation, tickets into club and access to members area and seat opposite winning post which are incredible.

The DRF is a good weekend apart from the queue for the toilets which is a joke. It costed around £260 for a similar day plus flights of course when I went three years ago. I really enjoyed it but anyone who thinks that it is a patch on the Cheltenham festival is comparing apples with oranges.

So my week at the festival costs £1,360…plus food and drink. We could do it for less without the seats which are £85 per day so closer to £1k for the week. So that is same as DRF.

I hope to keep going for a few more years or while is still affordable.

Good morning hibore

Your quite right comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges

Many of the best times of my life have been at the Cheltenham festival so many happy memories but after 40?plus festivals I’ve decided to call it a day you should never say never but i doubt I will go again ,to be honest royal ascot is more for me nowadays,

Hopefully you continue to enjoy your trips to Cheltenham and come 11am on the opening day and indeed all 4 days it will still be like Christmas for me also the racing will still be outstanding as ever I just won’t be there.

I know this is heresy, but in some ways, I think the DRF is better than Cheltenham:

As an experience, 3 days would be the ideal length for a top festival for me, but I'd rather have 2 than 4.

Overall, the racing is consistently higher quality at the DRF - obviously the best races are not as good as the best races at Cheltenham, but there are few weak races at the DRF, and no "Ryanair/Turners/Mares hurdle" type races for horses to hide in - they either have to race the others, or not show up at all. Leop is much less crowded (which I prefer as an experience), aside from the embarrassing queues for the toilets. It's not full of peaky blinders types trying to pour as much Guinness down their throats as physically possible.

Leop do a much better job of making racegoers feel welcome and appreciated than Cheltenham, who clearly do not give a t0$$ for anything except our money. The DRF also feels like a proper "event" (though having to fly over might create part of that sensation for me).

I do think Cheltenham as a racecourse is a better test of a jumps horse, particularly because of the limited number of obstacles in the last half mile at Leop. And of course the Cheltenham Festival has the great history, tradition and sense of theatre.

But it's not impossible the DRF could become the major meeting for racing purists, especially if the top GB trainers get involved, and Cheltenham continues down its path of becoming a social event rather than a true horse racing championship.

Couldn’t believe how many on the air lingus flight this morning from Manchester were going over for leopardstown and I’m sure the Ryanair flights will be busier.

The best pitch at chelt,is outside the food court tent, round the back of the stand.

There’s a permanent queue all day, betting and payout.
They tend to be at least 1-2 point less than sp,4-5 Betfair exchange.

In the ring,in best mate,it’s quitier.

These food court pitches just dropped lucky when they offered more pitches, better off being behind the stand than in front of it.

There’s probably 70% of the crowd behind the stand so it’s crazy paying for a pitch in the ring.

Tatts similar,but not as bad.

I don’t know why the ring, allowed pitches to be set up,sold, offered, all around the course, behind the stands etc, surely the value of your pitch was priced based on the position and number of pitches on course.

For chelt to just set up extra pitches, near bars, toilets, food courts.dilutes the value of your asset.

Is there no rules on this, otherwise, why buy a pitch for 100k,only for chelt to gazump you with multiple other pitches.

Strontium, sorry been away last week. We stay near Birdlip.

Not sure if it’s just me but thought the DRF was a bit of a damp squib this year.
