It was responsible for diluting that unique race, the Triumph Hurdle, which is now a shadow of the monster competitive race it used to be.

There is even a need for a consolation race for the Fred Winter. If British racing is shortsighted about the glorious festival it is, then a new formate is completely needed. With more bonus races elsewhere. Definitely make the meeting six days and have ladies finals, military finals, amateur finals, conditional finals, culminating in 18 grade one races on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. That will transform the sport and filter down to the courses, trainers, owners, jockeys, stable staff and betting pools. Or just have one day, with a champion hurdle, a gold cup, a champion novice hurdle, a champion novice chase, a stayers hurdle and a champion chase. Go large or go home for the festival.
