Honeysuckle for the Champion Hurdle for one and I expect that Shishkin would have been on many short lists for the Champion Chase in September. Facile Vega does not look a good thing any longer.

I have to agree with Sage on this one, although bites the dust maybe a bit strong. Quite a few short priced favs have performed badly, like Facile Vega, Jon Bon, Energumene and Lossiemouth.

If Shishkin can recapture his form prior to his last Champion Chase run and wins the Ascot Chase this saturday he'd be odds-on for this, I believe. But, it's a big if!

Was Shiskin's earlier form really that good, in retrospect? He beat Energumene at Ascot, which maybe doesn't look as good now as it did then. Before that, he beat Grenateen in conditions that wouldn't suit that one at all. As a novice, I don't think he beat anything one would describe as top drawer.

It doesn't feel right but 5/4 must be right because even at that price I couldn't oppose him because there is absolutely nothing else in that race that I could even think has a remote chance of being a runner for me...it's just horrible...Blue Lord 5/1...Fury Road...11/2!!!

That is what I thought Duffy. I can't back anything ante post at that price but on the day, even money will be a gimme if the vibes coming from the yard are as good as they were on Saturday. I had already backed Pic Dory but when Shishkin went favourite I knew they had him right. That does not always work of course but I can't remember such suppressed confidence and excitement from connections apart from Constitution Hill.

So you must generally lose and place small amounts because of it and should be kept away from antepost?
A winner having a grand on makes £125 more and has a few weeks to wait.

correct buut a nonner looses you the whole grand ........up too the individual but stone bruises etc .even a change of going and a runner be comes a nonner ! for the sake of £125 id go with nrnb !

Nrnb makes it the case that you might as well wait until the day when bookies compete for the millions bet and offer better odds in the morning than nrnb best prices are now

I’ve had 46 NRNB bets over the last couple of months. 7 bets are waiting to be refunded (Conflated Ryanair for example). Agree most shorties (virtually all horses under 5/1) are pointless backing now as will be bigger on day but if you are looking at the handicaps there are/were some cracking value bets out there. Some are still there and will be for at least a few days when the final weights are published.

Each to their own. I have had about 5 ante post bets on Cheltenham and laid off 4 of them at lower prices. I might back them again on the day. The other one is Paisley Park who has doubled in price so I have to stand that and accept the loss-unless he wins.

I’ve only backed 8 horses. Just backed them all multiple times if I thought the odds were incorrect if they turned up n that race. I might lay some off like you sage nearer the time and have a free roll.

25 left , shortest price 10s , some have been added to with nrnb . Best result was getting out of Fanion Destruval at a profit after appalling Newbury run , thanks Allaho !

Allaho is 7/2 (best) for a repeat after winning a 3-runner "soft" race at Clonmel earlier today; his 1st back post an injury after 561 days off the track. He's 7/1 for X'mas King George. Any taker for either race?

The comeback didn't feel like he was the same old Allaho, and that's before you throw in Walsh desperately wiggling about aboard Janidil trying to make it look like he was putting his horse under pressure to close.

On the back of writing off Allaho,I been looking at the race…just been out to Paddy shop and backed Envoi Allen @14/1 ew…. HDB said was the target a while back …fingers crossed he lines up on the day

There are very few horses sure to be targeted at the Ryanair, so when they are it has a big impact on their antepost price. Anyway, beaten horses in the KG have a fantastic record in the Ryanair. With that and his track record and trainer, I can see why he's still around favourite. Stage Star should have a real test on new year's day, which could change the market a bit.

I’ve talked myself into Ahoy Senor @ 20’s EW NRNB. Ran well enough in the Cotswold and looked dangerous until strap broke 1/2 mile out. Using the One Man wrong distance Gold Cup to Champion Chase reasoning he could blast off in front and lead them all a merry dance. His run at Aintree over sharp 3m 1f against Shishkin is top form and is head and shoulders compared with most of his rivals in this below par renewal. No point going Gold Cup as very little chance of even getting placed. This is the sensible race for him before he goes back to Aintree. Probably the best 20/1 NRNB out there in these skinny markets.

Appreciate It .Well overpriced on one bad run last time. Previously didnt stay 3 miles in Savills but ran well to 2 out. Split Fastorslow & Galopin D.C in John Durkan. They would be 8/11 or 2/5 respectively if either 1 of them ran here.

I’d lay Banbridge, Envoi and Stage Star combined at evens or less. Can’t have them at all for a variety of reasons.
Agree with appreciate it…he’s closely matched with Banbridge but is 5 times the price.

I still wouldn't rule out Ahoy Senor running in the GC, he was still cruising last time before the mishap, was still going well in last years GC when he fell, the trainer is waxing lyrical about the horses well being and crucially, because of the regard they hold the horse in will be looking for a reason to run him in the GC rather than looking for a reason to run him in the Ryanair.

Lucinda has said she wants to see if he’s effective over the shorter trip. “ One reason we are running him is we’ve a question mark over he goes for the Gold Cup or Ryanair” Russell said “It will be interesting to see if he’s as effective over a shorter trip”.
Not sure that translates into we favour the Gold Cup ??

Not really sure what to make of that. Terrible tactics.
Had no chance after 1 second of the race. Surely had to go from the front rather than thinking he is Dancing Brave. Not sure what you do now as that was ridiculous. Hope they go Gold Cup and I’ll get my money back.

I'd no financial interest in the race; Ahoy Senor (AS) escaped me as I was focusing on Pic D'Orhy and L'homme Presse. What was AS doing at the back over a trip shorter than he'd mainly run in? Brainless piece of race-riding.
