Yet another ante post favourite bites the dust.
Report impossible123 February 13, 2023 8:08 PM GMT
He's been backed the last few days then this happened. Bizarre!
Report layingisthewayforward February 13, 2023 8:31 PM GMT
Sageform, which other ante post favorites have bit the dust ?
Report jimnast February 14, 2023 9:42 AM GMT
Did anybody really back this horse ,there’s been so kind of doubt most of the season?
Report Bentring February 14, 2023 2:30 PM GMT
^^^^xactly
Report sageform February 15, 2023 7:51 PM GMT
Honeysuckle for the Champion Hurdle for one and I expect that Shishkin would have been on many short lists for the Champion Chase in September. Facile Vega does not look a good thing any longer.
Report Bentring February 15, 2023 8:39 PM GMT
You really think people backed Shiskin b4 reappearing after last years festival
Report penzance February 15, 2023 10:18 PM GMT
Constitution Hill's been the Chmpn jolly for a long while.
Report Andymca February 16, 2023 8:27 AM GMT
I have to agree with Sage on this one, although bites the dust maybe a bit strong. Quite a few short priced favs have performed badly, like Facile Vega, Jon Bon, Energumene and Lossiemouth.
Report strontium February 16, 2023 11:01 AM GMT
A bit harsh to say any of Jonbon, Energumene and Lossiemouth performed "badly", especially the latter.
Report sageform February 16, 2023 1:09 PM GMT
The World Hurdle has had at least 4 favourites since September.
Report Andymca February 16, 2023 2:31 PM GMT
True enough Strontium, not as well as expected, may be a better term
Report Bentring February 16, 2023 5:38 PM GMT
I would think the world hurdle was in a similar situation after September 2021 leading to cheltenham 2022
Report impossible123 February 16, 2023 7:23 PM GMT
If Shishkin can recapture his form prior to his last Champion Chase run and wins the Ascot Chase this saturday he'd be odds-on for this, I believe. But, it's a big if!
Report layingisthewayforward February 16, 2023 10:15 PM GMT
If he's odds on for this I'll be laying my absolute max.
Report Bentring February 17, 2023 12:26 AM GMT
If all stand their ground on Saturday there's a chance he won't be in the 1st 2 if indeed he has suffered from Clarence House
Report strontium February 17, 2023 1:58 PM GMT
Was Shiskin's earlier form really that good, in retrospect? He beat Energumene at Ascot, which maybe doesn't look as good now as it did then. Before that, he beat Grenateen in conditions that wouldn't suit that one at all. As a novice, I don't think he beat anything one would describe as top drawer.
Report cobra sam February 18, 2023 4:06 PM GMT
well well..a new shortie to be shot down in flames perhaps...that was impressive tbf....wouldnt back it 5/4 tho
Report strontium February 18, 2023 5:55 PM GMT
Career best? Jumped beautifully. Hat tip to Henderson for getting him back. How good must Edwardstone be?
Report brandyontherocks February 19, 2023 12:05 AM GMT
Didn't think we would see that performance from him again.
Looked very good today.
I was very wrong.
Report duffy February 19, 2023 3:05 PM GMT
It doesn't feel right but 5/4 must be right because even at that price I couldn't oppose him because there is absolutely nothing else in that race that I could even think has a remote chance of being a runner for me...it's just horrible...Blue Lord 5/1...Fury Road...11/2!!!
Report sageform February 20, 2023 9:03 AM GMT
That is what I thought Duffy. I can't back anything ante post at that price but on the day, even money will be a gimme if the vibes coming from the yard are as good as they were on Saturday. I had already backed Pic Dory but when Shishkin went favourite I knew they had him right. That does not always work of course but I can't remember such suppressed confidence and excitement from connections apart from Constitution Hill.
Report Tiger Tiger February 20, 2023 4:36 PM GMT
5/4 Nrnb or 11/8 antepost rules, no contest for me.
Report eric_morris February 22, 2023 8:00 AM GMT
So you must generally lose and place small amounts because of it and should be kept away from antepost?

A winner having a grand on makes £125 more and has a few weeks to wait.
Report FOYLESWAR February 22, 2023 10:56 AM GMT
correct buut a nonner looses you the whole grand ........up too the individual but stone bruises etc .even a change of going and a runner be comes a nonner ! for the sake of £125 id go with nrnb !
Report FOYLESWAR February 22, 2023 10:58 AM GMT
ive had plenty of ante post bets months ago before nrnb but at this stage of the game it makes sense imo to go nrnb.
Report eric_morris February 22, 2023 7:56 PM GMT
ffs lads you still living with your mums? Antepost is not day of races prices only mugs take them.
Report eric_morris February 22, 2023 7:59 PM GMT
Nrnb makes it the case that you might as well wait until the day when bookies compete for the millions bet and offer better odds in the morning than nrnb best prices are now
Report Hibore February 22, 2023 9:27 PM GMT
I’ve had 46 NRNB bets over the last couple of months. 7 bets are waiting to be refunded (Conflated Ryanair for example).
Agree most shorties (virtually all horses under 5/1) are pointless backing now as will be bigger on day but if you are looking at the handicaps there are/were some cracking value bets out there. Some are still there and will be for at least a few days when the final weights are published.
Report sageform February 23, 2023 8:09 AM GMT
Each to their own. I have had about 5 ante post bets on Cheltenham and laid off 4 of them at lower prices. I might back them again on the day. The other one is Paisley Park who has doubled in price so I have to stand that and accept the loss-unless he wins.
Report Hibore February 23, 2023 8:44 AM GMT
I’ve only backed 8 horses. Just backed them all multiple times if I thought the odds were incorrect if they turned up n that race. I might lay some off like you sage nearer the time and have a free roll.
Report paulo47 February 23, 2023 9:06 AM GMT
25 left , shortest price 10s , some have been added to with nrnb . Best result was getting out of Fanion Destruval at a profit after appalling Newbury  run , thanks Allaho !
Report cobra sam February 23, 2023 1:47 PM GMT
ive backed loads as well,,best ones were last march,,,still little bits of value in hcaps ...dont like there mainly top5 1/5 at this stage tho...another dodge from the layers
Report impossible123 November 9, 2023 5:33 PM GMT
Allaho is 7/2 (best) for a repeat after winning a 3-runner "soft" race at Clonmel earlier today; his 1st back post an injury after 561 days off the track. He's 7/1 for X'mas King George. Any taker for either race?
Report strontium November 9, 2023 8:10 PM GMT
Not me. To my eye, looked on the downgrade in 2022.
Report cobra sam November 30, 2023 8:39 PM GMT
Very short price for 2024 …would not be surprised if a no show
Report duffy December 1, 2023 10:48 PM GMT
The comeback didn't feel like he was the same old Allaho, and that's before you throw in Walsh desperately wiggling about aboard Janidil trying to make it look like he was putting his horse under pressure to close.
Report cobra sam December 3, 2023 12:13 PM GMT
On the back of writing off Allaho,I been looking at the race…just been out to Paddy shop and backed Envoi Allen @14/1 ew…. HDB said was the target a while back …fingers crossed he lines up on the day
Report strontium December 3, 2023 12:39 PM GMT
Envoi is getting a lot of love.
Report impossible123 December 26, 2023 5:48 PM GMT
Despite beaten in the King George Allaho is still 7/2 fav. I think that's shocking.
Report strontium December 26, 2023 9:46 PM GMT
There are very few horses sure to be targeted at the Ryanair, so when they are it has a big impact on their antepost price. Anyway, beaten horses in the KG have a fantastic record in the Ryanair. With that and his track record and trainer, I can see why he's still around favourite. Stage Star should have a real test on new year's day, which could change the market a bit.
Report cobra sam January 25, 2024 7:41 PM GMT
Allaho misses out again,,,shame for the horse
Report Hibore February 9, 2024 7:58 PM GMT
I’ve talked myself into Ahoy Senor @ 20’s EW NRNB. Ran well enough in the Cotswold and looked dangerous until strap broke 1/2 mile out.
Using the One Man wrong distance Gold Cup to Champion Chase reasoning he could blast off in front and lead them all a merry dance.
His run at Aintree over sharp 3m 1f against Shishkin is top form and is head and shoulders compared with most of his rivals in this below par renewal. No point going Gold Cup as very little chance of even getting placed. This is the sensible race for him before he goes back to Aintree.
Probably the best 20/1 NRNB out there in these skinny markets.
Report geoff m February 10, 2024 7:05 AM GMT
Appreciate It .Well overpriced on one bad run last time.
Previously didnt stay 3 miles in Savills but ran well to 2 out.
Split Fastorslow & Galopin D.C in John Durkan. They would be 8/11  or  2/5 respectively if either 1 of them ran here.
Report Hibore February 10, 2024 9:38 AM GMT
I’d lay Banbridge, Envoi and Stage Star combined at evens or less. Can’t have them at all for a variety of reasons.

Agree with appreciate it…he’s closely matched with Banbridge but is 5 times the price.
Report Hibore February 15, 2024 2:49 PM GMT
Ahoy Senor running over 2m 5f on Saturday. Good run should confirm Ryanair participation.

11/2 is actually very tempting. Maybe more than 20/1 in March Cool
Report strontium February 15, 2024 7:29 PM GMT
The race could be a proper burn-up with Stage Star and Ahoy Senor, and it will suit their running style.
Report duffy February 16, 2024 4:50 PM GMT
I still wouldn't rule out Ahoy Senor running in the GC, he was still cruising last time before the mishap, was still going well in last years GC when he fell, the trainer is waxing lyrical about the horses well being and crucially, because of the regard they hold the horse in will be looking for a reason to run him in the GC rather than looking for a reason to run him in the Ryanair.
Report geoff m February 16, 2024 4:57 PM GMT
Linda Russell said yesterday on a podcast that she favours the gold cup.
Report Hibore February 16, 2024 8:10 PM GMT
Lucinda has said she wants to see if he’s effective over the shorter trip. “ One reason we are running him is we’ve a question mark over he goes for the Gold Cup or Ryanair” Russell said “It will be interesting to see if he’s as effective over a shorter trip”.

Not sure that translates into we favour the Gold Cup ??
Report Hibore February 17, 2024 4:01 PM GMT
Not really sure what to make of that. Terrible tactics.

Had no chance after 1 second of the race. Surely had to go from the front rather than thinking he is Dancing Brave. Not sure what you do now as that was ridiculous. Hope they go Gold Cup and I’ll get my money back.
Report impossible123 February 17, 2024 5:42 PM GMT
I'd no financial interest in the race; Ahoy Senor (AS) escaped me as I was focusing on Pic D'Orhy and L'homme Presse. What was AS doing at the back over a trip shorter than he'd mainly run in? Brainless piece of race-riding.
