Appreciate It remains the general 5/2 ante post favourite for the race but surely the lack of update or entries is a concern?

He was entered at Punchestown in April (in the race Echoes In Rain won) and remember thinking there was never a reason given for his absence and it seemed that everyone had put it down to him having a long enough season.

The horse is clearly fragile, as is his stablemate Ferny Hollow. However, Ferny Hollow has at least made his chase debut and is seemingly on track for the 2m Grade 1 over the festive period. Assuming he wins, that will be 2 runs under his belt, including a Grade 1 win to his name over fences and that’s before Appreciate It has jumped a fence in public. If that is the case, it’s hard to see Ferny Hollow not being their Arkle horse.

It could be that all is not well with Appreciate It, or the plan is to go up in trip with him (he also holds an entry in the 2m3 Novice Chase at Limerick over the festive period along with Ferny Hollow) or perhaps the plan is actually to stay hurdling after all given his age …

Do you live in Co Carlow,if not how do you know he's fragile,I would be of the assumption he's a big framed horse that they won't risk on his 1st couple runs unless some juice (in the ground that is)

Patrick rates him
Jumping needs sorting
Report Paterson92 December 18, 2021 8:24 AM GMT
Bentring, maybe the fact that he’s turning 8 and has a grand total of 10 runs under his belt (including 2 PTP)?
Report Bentring December 18, 2021 5:18 PM GMT
Sorry didn't know you knew that was a fact.
Nothing to do with being such a big framed horse that he maybe needed time, that's not a fact just a thought
Report strontium December 18, 2021 10:42 PM GMT
Yhe yard also has to fit in Blue Lord, who already looks a better chaser than hurdler. But what they send to the Marsh might depend on how beatable they think Bob Olinger is.
Report golightly December 21, 2021 12:56 PM GMT
Appreciate it ok ?? big drift for arkle
Report golightly December 21, 2021 1:04 PM GMT
Appreciate It has met with a minor setback meaning plans to go chasing this season have been shelved.

Trainer Willie Mullins said: "Appreciate It will be out of training for a couple of weeks and because it would mean a late start to his chasing career in terms of this season, we’ve decided on a hurdling campaign when he is ready to return."

The seven-year-old enjoyed an unbeaten four-race campaign as a novice last season, culminating in a brilliant win in the Sky Bet Supreme at Cheltenham.

Good call OP. Also makes the Champion Hurdle more interesting (which it badly needs), although oddly it's many years (I think) since a Supreme winner won the following Champion Hurdle.

That looks like all my ante post bets on Blue Lord for the Turners up in smoke now. Will surely go for Arkle now
Report brandyontherocks January 31, 2022 3:24 PM GMT
Third Time Lucky suffered an over reach whilst winning at Doncaster.

Not normally a major problem but not ideal with the Arkle just 6 weeks away.
Report ENGLANDBARNES1 January 31, 2022 8:27 PM GMT
Cheers Brandy, I’m on at 20/1 ew but may look at laying off now.

Annoyingly Skybet never offer cash outs on Antepost, I know it has a massive margin, but it saves having a bit out lay laying it on the exchange.

Of the horses that remain I was most impressed by the round of jumping put in by Saint Sam on his belated debut.

He was very nimble at many, very economical, making ground at the fences , got in tight at a couple but was professional and was strong at the finish.

As far as I can see I thought the time of the race was good for a debut bearing in mind the extra 10lbs carried compared to the experienced 156 rated Dunvegan the race earlier.

Think the combination of him being a perceived second string and a slightly lower profile as a hurdler is seeing him dismissed in the market somewhat, I'm on him for the Arkle at the double figure odds, he's less experienced going into Saturday so hopefully any kind of positive performance will put him in the picture for the festival.
Report ENGLANDBARNES1 February 3, 2022 6:11 PM GMT
Surprising that they didn’t get Saint Sam out earlier in the season to get even more age allowance.
Mullins likes to give his second season juveniles an easy second season, so maybe it’s just that?
Report ENGLANDBARNES1 February 3, 2022 6:13 PM GMT
No overreach for Third Tine Lucky , just a small cut.
They’ve now entered him in the Kingmaker though to take advantage of the good ground.
Hopefully he misses that as I think his best fresh.
Report Hibore February 3, 2022 7:32 PM GMT
Finally he’s learned to settle. Most naturally talented horse at Skelton’s.
Owner was overruled last Cheltenham and horse went in wrong race which trainer admitted.
Will be closer to 3/1 on Tuesday 15th than 8/1 now. Could win without coming off the bridle.
Report brandyontherocks February 3, 2022 7:52 PM GMT
Was the cut from the over reach Barnes?
Or an unrelated cut?
Report ENGLANDBARNES1 February 3, 2022 8:41 PM GMT
It’s on the Racing Tv website.

Even better, apparently Skelton says it was just a graze.
Skelton says he didn’t know what it was on the day but thankfully it’s just a graze.
Report ENGLANDBARNES1 February 3, 2022 8:43 PM GMT
Hibore- with Skeltons record in the county hurdle, I think they should of trusted Skelton.

What did they want to target? I suppose the supreme badly cut up so he could of placed.
Report Hibore February 3, 2022 9:05 PM GMT
Yes, Supreme whatever the field size would have suited him much better.
Report Can't Catch Me February 4, 2022 10:07 AM GMT
The owner was relaxed either way tbh. Knew he wouldn't win the Supreme but felt he had a shot of winning the County so was happy to try that route.

I agree with the earlier comment the horse is best fresh. Personally think he will struggle to beat Edwardstone, never mind the best of the Irish.
Report Hibore February 4, 2022 11:32 AM GMT
Catch, they hadn’t made the decision on the 10th March which race to run in. Mike asked for the horse to be left in Supreme at that stage.
The final decision to run in the county was also swayed by likely better ground they would get a few days into the meeting. I’m not saying they argued over it but in hindsight he would have done much better in the Supreme.
Report Hibore February 4, 2022 1:39 PM GMT
Looking at the current field there is nothing to worry the British trainers. I’d take Edwardstone and TTL against Blue lord, Rivière, Haut and Saint Sam. The race on Sunday will just show who is best over in Ireland….hopefully if something wins well it will push the price of our two out.
Report Bentring February 4, 2022 3:59 PM GMT

Edwardstone has been a revelation this season. Interestingly had a very similar time to Shiskin at Kempton, but Shiskin finished his race off quicker and wasn’t fully fit.
Report sageform February 4, 2022 7:44 PM GMT
I do rate Edwardstone but I also think that Third time Lucki was below par on the day they met.
Report ENGLANDBARNES1 February 4, 2022 10:37 PM GMT
He was also 3.6 seconds quicker than Greanateen on Tingle Creek day, all be it carrying 5lb less.
Report Hibore February 5, 2022 6:50 PM GMT
Let’s be fair. That is appalling form today. Zero chance up the hill looking at that.

Edwardston should be clear fav on all known form. Lucky the mug Irish punters keep Blue Lord fav.
Report irishone February 5, 2022 8:28 PM GMT
Might get a place with fallers
Report duffy February 6, 2022 12:33 AM GMT
Saint Sam had a couple of disagreements with the jockey today, she saw a stride a couple of times that the horse didn't, he made a few mistakes and probably went quick enough.

The concern for the front two is that if you froze it turning in and guessed how far off them SS would finish you'd have to say it would be a lot further than it turned out because he looked gone, as it turned out they couldn't run away from an apparent beaten horse and he lost no ground from the last. He is less experienced than the front two, will be largely ignored now but the race is wide open and I hope he still takes his chance at double figure odds.
Report ENGLANDBARNES1 February 7, 2022 10:41 PM GMT
I was very annoyed Saint Sam tried to make all. He had a great chance if being held up with that amount of pace that should of been all vying for the lead.
Report howarth97 February 11, 2022 3:58 PM GMT
If Edwardstone is a genuine Evens shot for the Kingmaker tomorrow is he not worth a lay now around 4/1 seeing as his price is unlikely to be lower than 3/1 against the Irish two if he wins but if he's beat could easily go out to 13/2 plus
Report sageform February 12, 2022 11:54 AM GMT
Go ahead, I expect third Time Lucki to beat him today.
