honeysuckle the obvious place to start and the one to beat on last seasons form but we were in a similar place with epatante this time last year and she didnt reach the same heights as the previous season, could be  mares dont keep their form for long or they won very weak churdles ,who knows but at the price i have got to take her on .a few familiar faces in sharjah saldier epatant etc who will win trials but probably wont win the one that counts aspire tower jason the milatant   saint roi decent horses but this may be a bridge too far and the value may be finding an unexposed up and comer at a decent price . one that may be worth an each way pop is FRENCH ASEEL  who made an impressive debut at leopards over christmas bolting up by 22 lengths for annamarie holden on his debut  he may not have beaten much but it was the style of the win that impressed many ,subsequently purchased by the donnelys and now with willie mullins he was  fancied for the triumph hurdle and had been backed ante post but had a setback and missed the rest of the season  . french aseel has lots of french flat form winning 2 races and entered in the champion hurdle of course he would be an ideal type for one of the handicap hurdles and that may be where he ends up but take the fav out and its up for grabs imo and possible ferny hollow and appreciate it will be over fences this season and it could thin out .50/1  is speculative but ya dont need to put a lot on at that price . probably my few quid down the swannee already but i am not keen on much else in the race .
selection french aseel 50/1 each way  good luck you will need it ! opinions encouraged !

How can anyone oppose honeysuckle ?
Report FOYLESWAR November 17, 2021 8:23 PM GMT
they are all beatable  irish and around 7/4 i have no problem opposing her, that could have been a below average renewal ,plenty of improvers coming through ,as said epatante was all the rage this time last year but could not repeat it.

Looking back to Istabraq year's don't think 7/4 was available after 1st win in CH and he had plenty of pretenders to his crown that came up short.
Not saying she is his class but mighty impressed I was by her performance (I won't be tying up money)and likely to win again so 7/4 could be massive come march for those willing to be involved.
If she wins HG then Matheson at leopardstown Xmas or ICH in February whichever she runs in she be well odds on for March.
I can't at present time see anything worth betting against her so for me would be part of a multiple if I was doing another one.

Foyles there are plenty of examples of mares keeping their form.
Then there's the pathetic excuse it was a weak year.

When you look at the winners of the Champion Hurdle there is no asterisk or bracket by them denoting "weak year"

Its a losers sour grapes

You put an asterisk next to it to denote a non weak year these daysWink

No point looking beyond the obvious at this point.

Honeysuckle wasn't 100% last weekend.

Willie did his best to unsettle her with some of his best hurdlers

So I’ve been chipping away backing Honeysuckle all with loose change and have started getting worried that the opposition are going to gang up on her.
What I mean by this is jockeys and trainers may of got fed up by Blackmore boxing opposition in and want to repay the compliment.
In the mares hurdle, she nipped up the inside near the last bend much to Mullins annoyance who publicly announced Robbie power should of kept the door shut.
Then the champion hurdle, Blackmore positioned Honeysuckle to the right of the leaders and just sped up at an unusual time before the corner, boxing in epatante who then had to sit and suffer while Honeysuckle got a big lead.
She recently boxed in Galvin over Christmas and I don’t think the Mullins and Elliott yards will of forgotten these events.
I can see them not letting Blackmore start on the far right like normal and all running in and around her.
Blackmore has a great tactical brain, so I’m sure she is well aware what they may do.
It’s an in running bet for me on course if I can get a signal, once I see if she is going to get a clear run.

Have been doing odds and sods on Epatante around the 20s mark for a while on the machine , just added a bit of 5.0 without Honeysuckle . She has 9 lengths to find after a tatty round of jumping and not a brilliant passage , and carrying a supposed injury . I am happy with my chances .
Report Callisto-moon February 23, 2022 11:03 AM GMT
yes thanks to the top few in the betting being pretty much certs for the win the rest are kinda easy stress free lays.

All the hype about Appreciate It (AI) but I fancy Epatante to be 2nd to the supermare Honeysuckle. Shame no match betting against AI.

Mares first and second. The 7lb allowance is a joke. I kind of understood it as an incentive to run them when there were no mares races but this is an open championship race and they have their own championship where they can run if the trainer thinks they’re not good enough at levels.
Yet again Epatante ‘wins’ the two mile championship but doesn’t finish as the best horse at the weights. False champion in my book. I hope she meets a proper hurdler next year. If Constitution Hill runs next year I think he’ll give her 7lb and a pasting.
