Be interested in the weight and price ONE FOR THE TEAM gets / is if entered for the £m Handicap Chase on the Tuesday
Report duffy February 2, 2021 4:30 PM GMT
I am very interested and have already backed BLACKBOW in the Grand Annual, impressed on debut then fell and in my opinion was given a trot round last time whilst all eyes were on his better fancied stablemate, he basically had a schooling session out the back, I'd expect much the same at the weekend if he runs.

He just looks like a typical horse that the stable obviously think a lot of but things might not have panned out for him to compete at the highest level just now but might look very attractive in a handicap off a potentially decent mark.
Report Capallsasta February 2, 2021 4:35 PM GMT
Have backed MENGLI KHAN in the grand annual and SEA DUCOR in the County hurdle , Both are entered this weekend so will probably blow their marks so hoping neither run until March
Report The_LUFCwaffe February 2, 2021 5:57 PM GMT
Tips now available if you look at the Musselburgh card for the weekend. Elliots range finding exercise has yielded some info.

Escaria Ten getting a rating of 140!

I had him down for the NH Chase, looks as though the 3 miler and the Kim Muir are now in the cross-hairs. Talk about lenient!

Urgh. I thought exactly the same and had backed him accordingly.

Report Jb23 February 2, 2021 9:54 PM GMT
It's not very original, but Jerrysback looks to be one for one of the handicap chases whether its the ULTIMA or the Kim Muir. Should imagine he is well found regardless.

Botox Has would interest me if he went to the County
Report Fabulous February 3, 2021 12:22 AM GMT
Meat Loaf, entry stage is 23rd Feb. It’s usually two days later that they’re actually revealed.

I think that the weights will be revealed roughly a week later from the 25th. Apologies if this is wrong.
Report duffy February 3, 2021 6:01 PM GMT
Lots of snow forecast for Scotland at the weekend, Musselburgh must be at risk.
Report sageform February 4, 2021 1:18 PM GMT
I agree with Blackbow duffy. He owes me after sitting out the back last time but the handicapper might have noticed. Otherwise I am happy to wait for the final decs.
Report Hibore February 6, 2021 8:43 AM GMT
Blackbow running today is a bit bizarre. Must still fancy him for the Grade 1’s because if he runs well his handicap mark will be blown out of the water.
Report duffy February 6, 2021 2:17 PM GMT
Wasn't expecting such a prominent run as that, I'm pleased to see the good run and disappointed in equal measureGrin
Report Hibore February 6, 2021 3:02 PM GMT
Can’t see him running at Cheltenham after that. Where would he go with a chance now ?
Report duffy February 6, 2021 3:26 PM GMT
Well, he's going to be nearly top weight in the Grand Annual if he ran in that, it's that or nothing though I think, a trot round out the back would have been preferable, but he's classy and improving still and a strong end to end gallop will suit as he's still a little keen.

He's shown himself to a large degree and if there is something hidden away down the bottom so be it but I hope they run him in it.
Report harry callaghan February 6, 2021 6:46 PM GMT

Do you think he’s improved from his debut run over fences Duffy?
Report sageform February 6, 2021 7:03 PM GMT
If Blackbow doesn't jump better than that he won't win any chase at Cheltenham. Clearly very talented. County Hurdle?
Report duffy February 6, 2021 7:11 PM GMT
harry,

I'd say his 10 length 3rd in a grade one today behind a right tool was an improved run from his beginner's chase win.

Why, do you think he's gone backwards ?
Report harry callaghan February 6, 2021 7:24 PM GMT
No don’t think he’s gone backwards, just don’t think he’s improved much from his debut chase win...I’d say myself we are talking small margins just an opinion but his debut run was decent but he hasn’t come forward much from that imo
Report harry callaghan February 6, 2021 7:37 PM GMT
Out of interest Duffy how much do you think he’s improved from his debut run?
Report duffy February 6, 2021 7:41 PM GMT
Fair enough, he did fall the 2nd run and then was never put in the race, so this was his first proper effort since.

I think his sometimes sketchy jumping was down to for a large part because he was keen and a lot of the time the jockey was letting him find his own way at the fences, when they were in sync he made some good leaps, thought he boxed on well enough too after the last.
Report duffy February 6, 2021 7:55 PM GMT
Well, I think if the handicapper was able to give him a mark after his debut he would have rated him in the low 140's, today he will be rated in the low 150's
Report sageform February 6, 2021 8:15 PM GMT
He was hurdling his fences. You can't do that at Cheltenham. He might jump better on better ground.
Report harry callaghan February 6, 2021 9:07 PM GMT
Ive actually always liked him Duffy tbh but he’s a deceiving character if you know what I mean I don’t know why but he’s quirky in my book

he’s always had the talent but he does seem better this season but I’m a little bit with sageform in regards his jumping. I’m certainly not going to give up on him as think there is a pot in him but not sure when that maybe...I don’t think he has come forward much though but no doubt he can win again this season with his ability he just isn’t easy for me to place
Report differentdrum February 6, 2021 9:13 PM GMT
The best one was Sky Pirate before the trainer thought it was sensible to wreck his mark by winning at Warwick.

The problem with every handicap is one J P McManus. Same every year. Just lucky if you land on the buzzer. Look how he flooded the handicaps today. Top Moon had appeared to show little aptitude for fences and nearly pops up at 50/1.
Report duffy February 6, 2021 9:14 PM GMT
I just hope that in a years time there will be a new trivia question doing the rounds!!

Which festival winner was beaten in four maiden hurdles all at odds on?Grin
Report sageform February 7, 2021 7:59 AM GMT
It is hard enough for GB handicappers to rate Irish horses in a normal season but this time it is impossible.

If Thyme White does not get a run in the Betfair he might be interesting for the County Hurdle. He needs a run before though.

Last year handicap entries were revealed on Thursday 20th February and weights were revealed on Wednesday 26th February.  The Festival started on Tuesday 10th March.

Working back from this year's Festival start date of Tuesday 16th March, I'd expect handicap entries to be revealed on Thursday 25th February and weights to be revealed on Wednesday 3rd March.

Still think connections will think logically and exploit a mark of 140 with bear ghylls in the Martin pipe conditional jockeys race, he looks visibly treated to me
Report differentdrum February 11, 2021 2:29 PM GMT
So in all likelihood they have a 150+ horse who is more than qualified to take his chance in a Ballymore, but they will run him in a handicap with a jock who has never ridden the horse before? I wish I thought you were joking.
Report harry callaghan February 11, 2021 2:56 PM GMT
I’m sure bryan carver or Rex dingle will be an able deputy...

certainly the right race for him, like you said on another thread, ballymore very competitive so this should be far more his bag, novices have a tremendous record in the Martin pipe so perfect for this keen horse
Report Anyska February 11, 2021 3:52 PM GMT
backing all elliots blind like the way they bolted up in last years festival. While his form isn't mighty over the past few mouths, alot of horses should be having a few lbs on the handicapper
Report Quevega06 February 11, 2021 7:41 PM GMT
Harry will you stop winding that man up
Report harry callaghan February 11, 2021 8:13 PM GMT
I'm not winding him up, that is the best spot for that horse...sorry if that offends. I did actually mention it on the bear ghylls thread if you care to look, it is on there. Why would you not want to exploit that Mark. Anyway just an opinion
Report Quevega06 February 11, 2021 11:44 PM GMT
If you check I said the same to on the chat,.just trying to lighten the mood..  Plenty of graded horses goes MP instead of a novice race. If Fakiera(joint fav for AB) gets 145 IN England it'll go MP to
Report harry callaghan February 12, 2021 9:20 AM GMT
Yes agreed plenty of graded horse go the Martin pipe, if I thought he was weighted out of it I wouldn’t think it was good spot for him but it seems a good fit to me,

I can’t remember a horse winning a handicap before the ballymore hurdle before and a handicap might just suit him more than a conditions race and help him drop the bit as he is a keen type...the Martin pipe is a grade 3 also and at this stage he’d only be that grade, so makes sense to keep him in company that he can win in
Report duffy February 12, 2021 4:31 PM GMT
It'll also give him an extra 2 days to improve his jumping.Grin

irishone, that can work for any handicap when JP has several runners. You can often back them all if they are double figure prices.

Report Andymca February 24, 2021 10:54 AM GMT
Is it true that the declarations were out yesterday for the owners and trainers, but will not be released to the public until tomorrow. Surely this unfair to puter, swho could be backing undeclared horses
Report sparkygayle February 24, 2021 10:54 AM GMT
Agreed. Why all the secrecy ??
Report Saritamer February 24, 2021 1:23 PM GMT
A list of all the handicap entries are on the Sporting Life site just now. Think weights might be out tomorrow hopefully
Report Andymca February 24, 2021 1:44 PM GMT
I think it is Friday or Saturday for the weights, but I could be wrong, I usually am
Report Cash Is King February 24, 2021 2:30 PM GMT
I've already given the dates in an earlier post.

The delay between entries and weights is to allow the British handicapper time to rate the Irish entries.
Report duffy February 24, 2021 2:54 PM GMT
No Blackbow, probably expected.
Report Saritamer February 24, 2021 6:13 PM GMT
You are spot on Cash, me expecting the weights to be out tomorrow is, quite frankly, ridiculous
Report Quevega06 February 28, 2021 8:54 AM GMT
Be interesting to see what the handicapper does this year, as not as much tax on the Irish horses on the was up to Cheltenham. Especially the Elliott horses
Report sageform March 1, 2021 10:27 AM GMT

Report duffy March 1, 2021 3:28 PM GMT

jb23 , your support for Botox Has is well founded but he needs a trip and will run in the Coral.
Report Cash Is King March 3, 2021 10:00 AM GMT
Not long to wait until the big reveal.

Handicap marks awarded to the Irish entries will be published shortly. This thread will then descend into the usual JP McManus guessing game.
Report ZEALOT March 3, 2021 10:57 PM GMT
BLACK TEARS 148 - A very workable mark - 2nd to the very well handicapped and well backed DAME DE COMPAGNIE in last years Coral Cup. Up 4lb , 16-1 looks very fair.
Report Flemenstar March 5, 2021 2:44 AM GMT
I was very interested in Barnaviddaun who holds 2 entries (Coral and Martin Pipe) - beat Damalisque last time who has since nearly gone up 2 stone which makes my selection look extremely well handicapped

however in the mean time I see it has moved to David Bridgwater's - not sure if that is a positive or not
