If Irish horses are not allowed to travel over for CHELTENHAM because of the Corona virus I take it all ante post bets on said horses will be classed as losers including on the exchanges

It’s a tricky one ,be the end of A P betting for many should it happen

I think Betfair will soon include clauses to protect backers of Irish horses for the Cheltenham Festival.
Report jimnast December 23, 2020 3:56 PM GMT
has cheltenham been brought forward for 2021 ?
Report duffy December 23, 2020 4:39 PM GMT
Doubt we will even have a festival, this thread is supposing that sport is continuing, I think that is highly questionable now.
Report buddeliea December 23, 2020 4:46 PM GMT
Yep, thats what i am now thinking Duffy
Just does not look good at all, and getting worse.
Report jimnast December 23, 2020 4:56 PM GMT
oxford vaccine very close many will be sorted before the festival only difference will be a smaller roar when the tapes go up.
Report buddeliea December 23, 2020 4:58 PM GMT
I hope you are right
I fear you are wrong
Report duffy December 23, 2020 5:02 PM GMT
They will have a hard lock down with everything lost whilst they vaccinate people, the situation is beginning to descend into an even greater chaos than we already have, the new strains complicating things still further and with the added suggestion that younger people (who are harder to restrict) are more susceptible.

Duffy/Budd

I have huge respect for you both but not entirely sure why this thread is going down the path it is. I started readingthis thread as the op raised a fundamental point only to find I am reading a will it or won’t if go ahead thread. Had there been an official thread on this subject I would have had the opportunity to avoid it which I most definitely would have done

That's Fair comment.

I will stick to my first reply, and leave it at that.

I think I have only just recovered from the uncertainty preceding this years festival. I do not have the mental fortitude to go through that again. I am now rocking in the corner reciting the serenity prayer over and over again.

many of us got to involved in the uncertainty preceding this years festival it was unhealthy.
Report duffy December 24, 2020 4:33 AM GMT
I think we should actually ponder what sort of will there would be to even have a festival without the Irish, I think the spectacle of it would be farcical at the very least.
Report GAZO December 24, 2020 6:19 AM GMT
do you think trainers/owners wont enter their horses because the irish are not here ? if people can attend do you think they will not go because the irish are not here ?
Report buddeliea December 24, 2020 7:45 AM GMT
Anyway, back to the thread topic.

It would be very tough to take for me personally IF the Irish aint there, as i have a fair few potentially exciting bets on Irish horses, at i think nice value prices, plus multiples inc Irish horses.
Its one thing losing money on bets on horses that dont run, but to have the chance of watching to see how those bets placed pan out taken away, would leave me gutted.
Report irishone December 24, 2020 8:04 AM GMT
I am not going and have told many of the boyos its too dangerous.
There is no doubt that the quality would deteriorate without the Irish and it wouldn't be the best in the World.
You used to be able to rely upon top quality in the U K , this applied to every aspect of the Cheltenham service from the transport in and out , the food ,the accomodation.
Its taken a bit of a downward turn since the four day decision but covid has pulled the quality rug from under our feet.
There is a lack of space and personal respect for people now , drunks and party goers, a seed box for covid .

thats the nature of antepost betting, not getting the chance to see how things would have panned out,the events around this year could be one of the strange one's but thats life
Report buddeliea December 24, 2020 9:53 AM GMT
Yes of course i understand that Gazo, and nornmal reasons for not running would see no complaints from me.

This is far from normal.
Report buddeliea December 24, 2020 10:00 AM GMT
Gazo
So i take it you are of the mind, that if one has backed a horse that cannot run because of the decisions surrounding a deadly virus, then basically....tough?
Report GAZO December 24, 2020 10:14 AM GMT
of course you should get your money back, you just made out you would be more gutted not to see how those bets would have got on and that happens every year
Report buddeliea December 24, 2020 10:51 AM GMT
I would be, but again that would be because of the pandemic that i did not get to see how they panned out,and that dont happen any year.
And hopefully not next year either.

Anyway, thanks for answering.
Report sageform December 27, 2020 5:01 PM GMT
I will not be backing any Irish horse for March. I have laid Envoi Allen for the Marsh but that is it.
Report layingisthewayforward December 29, 2020 4:33 PM GMT
All bets on the exchange will be classed as none runners / losers.  Plenty of books will void as a PR exercise I suspect.
