This won’t be the only race this season where that comment will apply, but at least he will run his horses against each other I personally have no problem with it,Elliot in particular supports down royal very well a course that’s been under pressure in recent years.

FYI BLACK OP (second to Samcro in the 2018 Ballymore, and then won the Aintree version afterwards) won his Beginners Chase today in Stratford (aftertime I know, SP 5/2 Tom George J Burke for Mr R S Brookhouse.....made all, clear before last, readily).

A very pleasing chase debut, and winninb as he liked against non-entities. It's good to know he's well; the Drinmore Chase in Dec is next. I think he's also more likely for the JLT than RSA at Cheltenham.

I think we have seen quite a few very good novice chasers in the last week or so a really exciting time ,and there will be more to come ,the one that might be a bit underestimated is eclair de beaufeu weak in the market only Wexford but the result was never in doubt, there have been other more high profile horses in the novice division, early days but time will tell.
Impossible listening to Elliot’s interview the drinmore looks likely.

Samcro's wasnt a great performance. His jumping was laboured even though he was under very little pressure. His jockey did a great job, but this fellah is a novice jumping right handed and wanting to change feet, compare it to his p2p when he won that he was called a big baby and that race the other day was the closest I have seen him come to that.

I think Champagne Classic and Battleoverdoyen are more likely 3 milers this season; Samcro, if he wins The JLT going away, most likely head for The Gold Cup next season.

Another interesting gigginstown Elliott novice runs in a decent cork race today Dallas des pictions he won a farcical race at Gowran park a couple of weeks ago and is hard to judge on that but was A good 2 nd in the Martin pipe.

Out of the 13 fences he jumped he jumped 11 well, the 3rd slightly right and the last a bit more right he could have been getting a bit board by then,he was very strong at the line I don’t really see how much more impressive he could have been,of course if he does go to fairyhouse next it will be much stronger opposition he will face and whilst I agree there is no value in him at the moment it was a very good all round chase debut.

Ok Foxy Lets see how he does when he goes left handed against better opposition. Early days and the horse deserves more time and experience before concluding too much.

When I was watching real time I remember thinking he was jumping slightly to the right in the early stages. I remember thinking that he was regularly closer to the horse upsides him after jumping the fence than he was in the run up to the fence. I remember seeing him collide with the horse upsides him after jumping at around fence 5 or so. I remember asking myself (again in real time) whether he was feeling something. I also remember thinking that as soon as I saw the jockey was going to let him to his own devices at the last that the horse would chose to run down the fence to the right and then it happened exactly as I had imagined it would. I also remember thinking that this tendency to jump a little right handed would be exaggerated running left handed and would compromise his chances against the best.
When I saw foxys post I started to question whether I had imagined the whole thing particularly as so many people in the media and on this forum have commented on how impressed they were with his jumping. I have since watched the race again and it has re enforced most of what I felt real time. The only major addition to my live judgement was how his tendency to jump right lessened once he took the lead with daylight (apart of course from the last).
If I was a backer of Samcro I would very much want the trainer to attempt to correct this. If the trainer agrees with foxy and the general consensus then he will not see the need to.
He will not have any of my money until I see what I need to see but the very best of luck to all those that have or are going to make a financial investment.

Thanks for the replies bud and Miltons,I think we all agree it’s early days as it is for all the exciting novice chasers we have already seen this season, the probable next run is fairyhouse although connections have a few to choose from for that race,if Elliott does have any concerns he may take an easier option, hopefully we will see him at leopardstown over Christmas where things should become clearer regarding going left handed.

To be honest I'd not noticed his jumping to the right. If so, I hope it was because he was infront too early and was bored. Let's hope his next race is a competitive one. If so and winning well The JLT is well within his compass.

Given the way the horse has been campaigned so far, the regard in which he is held and the fact that he's not getting any younger, I wouldn't be surprised if they chucked him into the Gold Cup as a novice. Obviously, he would have to have rattled through the next few months successfully...... fancy prices available.

Major error if he goes GC imvho, he's a very backward novice by the looks of it, the jockey was well aware of that, it was a schooling session for Gordon not the horse.

I think Fakir D'ourdaries (FD) is an excellent jumper for a novice - accurate and quick - and will be suited over 2m or 2m 4f, but my preference would be 2m because he'd jump the rest silly.
I think Samcro is very good too just has been a touch unlucky (2x) tipping over/slipped on landing when challenging in a 2m Champion Hurdle Trial in Ireland and Drinmore Chase respectively; he'd possibly be tiring when tipping over/slipped on landing in these two races. Nevertheless a commendable effort to be so close to FD in the Drinmore Chase despite out-jumped by FD at most fences.
I hope Samcro stays at 2m 4f this season - 3m may be too soon given his mishap over shorter distances - until winning The JLT convincingly or going away. If so, he'd be a serious contender for The Gold Cup in 2021.
