My feeling  at this early stage of his career is Champ is going to be a top top horse, and hes a worthy favourite.
Sadly I have missed the boat and have no nice antepost voucher.
I do have a nice price for Brewinupastorm however, and was impressed with him yesterday, until the last.
Will stick with that, and add Champ at some stage.

I'm still open-minded on this race, and sheer luck taken 20/1 on Battleoverdoyen after his 1st win in Ireland; Champ is a good horse but pacy - missed the price. Nevertheless, insurance in doubles and trebles only given his short price.

Where do we think Birchdale will go? Having backed him at 25s for this i have a feeling that after yesterday the logical race is the potato Shocked

Guess it depends if they want to split him and Champ.
Hes similar price for both races and has shortened for both races.
Bigger prices for Supreme available.
Watching him yesterday he looks to me like both the longer races would suit him ok.

Considering plans for his strong team of novice hurdlers, Henderson said: "They'll all be in all the novice hurdles, which close next week. We've just got to sort out where they go. I'm not sure this horse wants three miles yet.

You may be ok STS.

I understand Hendo is well represented in the Supreme. Nevertheless, could Champ go the Supreme route? He's pacy, and with stamina too.

Possible he could go Supreme.
Don't think he will, think the Ballymore will be his race.
But ground and how his other horses are near the time may play a part in decisions.

Have backed him in a double with Angels Breath, but if he aint in the Ballymore it would give Brewinupastorm more chance ,so I have mixed feelings personally.

All being well I'll lay off some on Battleoverdoyen in the next couple of weeks; just 45 days to the race.

I think Brewingupastorm gave a boost the the form of Champ yesterday, and would have won the race had he stood up

Yeh my gut feeling was he would have won as well, but certainly not definite.

Have a feeling the Ballymore this year could produce some good ones.

I like another one of JP's in Rhinestone who's star has slipped a little but ran a lot better last time than the bare form suggests, I be backing him for this race or preferably the AB, he yet end up in the MP if his mark is favourable, but quite like him.

I'm always against horses who've ran in the Bumper coming back to the Festival.

I'll give you 15 that flop for everyone you name. Gigginstown seem to agree as well.

Cue Card werent bad!!!

You do have a fair point though Sam,Race been going since 1992,and off top of my head can only think of 2 others that went on to win another festival race.Florida Pearl and Monsignor.

I'll give you twenty that flop when they go back !
30 runners in the bumper
26/28 Cheltenham festival races per year
Even if the first three came back and won each year
you would have 25+ that didnt

When was the last time there were 30 runners in the Bumper?!

It's all about opinions but I firmly believe that young horses who run / win the festival Bumper rarely develop into top notch G1 performers. Since 1992, only 2 winners of the Champion Hurdle, Gold Cup, Stayers Hurdle or Champion Chase had previously ran in the Bumper. Surely you can concede that you'd expect that figure to be higher?

Is that down to the stresses of the race at such an early stage of their career? Perhaps
Would they have been the same animal regardless? Perhaps.

On this occasion I'm inclined to side with Gigginstown. If that helps me rule out the sexier types year on year then I'm happy to go with it. You have your opinions, I'll have mine.

You have had a National winner, Champion hurdler, Ballymore winner, a Gold cup placed horse, Supreme winner, Hennessy winner, JLT winner, Stayers hurdle winner, from just the also rans.

I can play this game too. You take your list and I'll have all of Gigginstown and

Denman
Kauto Star
Bobs Worth
Long Run
Coneygree
Djakadam
Buveur Dair
Faugheen
Hurricane Fly
Big Bucks
Altior
Sprinter Sacre
Master Minded

to name but a few. And if you want to go further back I'll have Arkle, One Man and Dessie too!

Its all about opinions.

Ps Felix Yonger and quite a few others?!
Would be nowhere near a list of noteworthy NH horses by anybody other than the lass who wiped their @rse's in the mornings (even then perhaps!).
By:
duffy
When: 06 Feb 19 16:39
Your list is pointless, if you want to hand pick some of the greatest horses of all time against horses that come out of a single race I will happily concede that you will always have the better listCrazyCrazy

The point that you were making originally was that it was a practical graveyard for horses going forward, It clearly isn't.

No my point was that I avoid horses who've ran in the Cheltenham Bumper at future Cheltenham Festivals. Why you're quoting Hennessys and Grand Nationals only you know.

If it means I miss a Ballymore winner every 10 years I'll take it. GL.
