Now that proper racing is upon us, its time to start backing one all the way to March, and I've decided Santini is that horse.
Slightly disappointing to be single figure prices already, but 8/1 looks more than fair to me as it looks very much like the horse will only have one target (7/1 to win Any Race and have split my stakes between the two just in case).
The horse is a real unit and everything about him screams 3m staying chaser, and he won his P2P impressively. Thought Nico gave him a pretty poor ride in the Albert Bartlett... Had him way too far back and he used up an awful lot of energy from the final bend to the last fence and that ultimately cost him the race.
Much better ride at Aintree when he was up with the pace all the way and stayed on gamely to win and he looks absolutely made for fences. Very annoyed with myself as nearly backed him at 16/1 after Cheltenham. Hard to believe he's half the price already!
The one I'd side with at the moment would be OK Corral who greatly impressed me in the AB and travelled probably best for the whole race and I think Geraghty was over confident and went for him too late as when he did he was very green and then bungled the last losing momentum but still regained it and ran on strongly past Santini for 2nd. It was a bit of a shocker at Aintree, as, after travelling into the race he fell away and looked very tired, I'm happy to put a line through it as an instance where the Cheltenham to Aintree route just didn't work for this horse. He looks a right old gangly chasing type to me who's surely crying out for fences, I'm just a bit disappointed that he's not a bit bigger than 25's.

at this stage topofthegame would be my sun alliance horse ,very strong in the market for his only chase run when hitting the deck at newbury did well in decent handicaps including 2nd of 150 in the coral cup,has the right attitude for the sun alliance around 16s he is a fair price.nichols not won the race since denman in 2007 is not a great stat,a slight worry is as the staying hurdle division is not that strong at the moment he might go down that route.

Yeah two good shouts lads. Had both on my shortlist. Topofthegame probably my second pick and will have a saver on him for sure. Another who looks like fences will be the making of him.
I wondered if Ok Corral might be one for the 4 miler Duffy. Looks like he will stay all day and I wouldn’t ever back a 9 year old in the RSA tbh.

I like santini but looks like the value is gone. Not sure I would be taking 7/1 on him. Paul nicholls was asked for his one to watch this season and he said topofthegame so I will be keeping him on my shortlist. Other than that its early days

At this stage it looks strong, Black Op would be favourite if we knew he'd be going here IMO and OTBS looks potentially top drawer, and that's before we even consider where Samcro is going to end up....The AB winner is 40's !!!

I've backed a couple but played it safe and backed them to win any race at 16/1 and a little boost on those prices. Cracking Smart and Delta Work both Giggy horses. Cracking Smart missed Cheltenham last year (much to my dismay) and he looks a thorough Stayer. The way he stayed on behind Next Destination over 2 1/2M makes me think he'd beat him over 3m and ND went on and won the Punchestown version of the Albert Bartlett. Delta Work improved all last season, won the Pertemps at the festival and then ran 2nd to Next Destination at Punchestown. It is easy to think they'll be kept apart and any race market suited me better. Santini is a bit short compared to these in my book.

Backed Delta Work after his winning chase debut. Jumped very well and showed a very good attitude over a trip short of his best. I don't think he really wants winter ground so I hope Elliott doesn't go pot hunting for the sake of it. Light campaign and he has a good chance of repeating the Presenting Percy double. At this stage 16/1+ is very reasonable.

Plenty of clues available tomorrow at Exeter. Black Op, Defi du Seul, Topofthegame and White Moon over 2miles 3 furlongs. The winner is likelty to shorten for both the RSA and JLT.

Wow...Defi's back..really pleased for Hobb's, remember how emotional he was after the Triumph....wouldn't be going down the staying route though, he looks like all his pace is still there.

Did we learn much? Defi won well but which race if any at Cheltenham will he be aimed at? Topofthegame gave them 20 lengths start, jumped well and can only improve for further. Black Op was a bit disappointing. May be fitness and heavy ground found him out.

can't add much, duffy and sage - except that Topofthegame is absolutely enormous, looks even bigger than last year - can't remember seeing a racehorse bigger than him...

A shame that Delta Work doesn't run in The Flogas, was hoping to see a big run today. Not got that much on him for RSA, but at least can't do any harm I suppose.
In his absence, I'd love to see La Bague Au Roi win, and with the trainers doubts about Cheltenham, and even this far out, she makes some appeal for The King George at 16's.
The one I like at a bit of a price for The RSA is Drovers Lane, 33's seems a fair ew price to me.
