By:
yeah he took the same race last year before cheltenham
prep race only 8 years old and put aside all season |
By:
Don't think Penhill & Native Rivers was intended because they were both injured

altior ? wind op ok but ten months out before latest run ?
its not like nh has been rushing to get him back vroom vroom mag ? out since april coming back prep run this week entered in mares hurdle. bellshill - not seen since last years rsa was running well until last few furlongs , back for the ryanair 25\1 and shorter distance than the rsa |

I don't get your point Irish
By:
my point is
most trainers target cheltenham based upon the season others target a year out many good horses for courses at cheltenham e g quevega ! identifying them profitable ? not sure merely looking |
By:
...or how about that pacha du polder ?
11 year old last seen out plodding around the foxhunter at aintree ten months ago having won at cheltenham last year.has a prep run this week before the foxhunters at cheltenham again. 12\1 and laid out for the race. |
By:
Byrony Frost won't be on Pacha Du Polder this year, but the horse still looks too big at 12's.
Total Recall's main target was the Grand National but has now been switched to the Gold Cup. He could well be still improving after moving from Sandra Hughes to Willie Mullins and will have the stamina, if he's good enough to be there at the last. |
By:
Yanworth is the latest high profile horse given a definitive target. Let's hope Yorkhill and Douvan will be the next.
By:
How about tizzards PINGSHOU , 10th in last years supreme, shocked tizard with manner of his win at aintree over 2 miles, beaten behind cilias emery and melon at punchestown, plodding on ... 50/1 for the ballymore , not seen for ten months...
By:
...sorry not tge ballymore meant gthe champion hurdle
By:
irishone - Pingshou is apparently a notoriously difficult horse to keep sound. Latest word is that he misses Cheltenham after "throwing a splint".
By:
You seem to just be listing horses that haven't run because they've been injured.
By:
Native river and wonderful charm, their whole season looks like it only revolves around the gold cup and the foxhunters

Over 60% Winning strike rate on this thread dedicated to those that seek Cheltenham glory on the back of a winter in a warm stable or a prep run that defies logic. The obvious one I wont mention due to the previously nominated thread so here goes again …
BENIE LES DEIUX – TUESDAY MARES HURDLE (current 6/4F) been out on the gallops just a few times all year whilst that Apples Jade (beaten easy at Punchestown) has taken all the limelight, don’t like running on good ground, praying for rain in the next couple of weeks. MINELLA FAIR- TUESDAY NATIONAL HUNT CHASE (current 50/1) WEDNESDAY RSA (current 150/1) “ Also prefers the heavy ground , won over those hurdles at Clonmel , bit of a tank. CAREFULLY SELECTED - WEDNESDAY BALLYMORE (current 14/1)Bumper runner up and wont worry about a drier surface PENHILL – THURSDAY STAYERS HURDLE (current 5/1) trouble with shins this year as per last year, annual jaunt, £200 grand a year is not a bad number really for sitting in a stable and good ground won’t put him off either BRELADE – FRIDAY COUNTY HURDLE (current 33/1) Got a bruised foot mid season so Gordon decided to put him away for a Cheltenham handicap. |

Talk about DREAMs
This has to be the target of all target horses Its entered in the BALLYMORE and the ALBNERT BARTLETT Its only ever run once and it won Hasn't run since SAT 18th March 2017 When it won a bumper by 4 lengths over 2 miles at kempton 700 plus days in the stable CAPTAIN MCGARRY 80s for the Ballymore 100s for the Albert Bartlett "Graeme McPherson is not a trainer known for too many bumper winners and certainly not first time out but there was so much to like about this 5 yo son of OSCAR he looks really good and moves very well. The fact that Captain McGarry was able to win at Kempton on debut bodes extremely well for his future. Now don’t get me wrong it probably wasn’t the top end of the scale as far as Kempton bumpers go but it was a very taking performance and the runner up that day contested a weaker race at Southwell and hacked up by 26 lengths. So at least that gives the form a solid look to it. CAPTAIN MCGARRY was up with the pace all the way around and when he was given more reign turning in strode on with gusto and was clearly doing his best work at the finish. I think the horse had loads left in the tank. He’s a really exciting animal for a small stable and the sky really is the limit for this horse. A really decent honest individual he is already becoming a favourite with the team. He was ridden close to the pace and, having been allowed to stride on as the field turned in, he was doing his best work in the closing stages, appearing to cross the line with plenty left in the tank. I think the plan is to step him up to 2 and a half miles once they send him hurdling. He will certainly need at least that on breeding but it was the manor of that victory that showed he has stamina to burn." Yours sincerely, A.Blog absolute certainty ! |

Is Pacha qualified? He looked very poor on his only run this season. The list on the RP website is "possible entries" so beware any ante post bets until the official entries are published and even then horses need to qualify.

FOXHUNTER =
For five-year-olds & upwards which since October 1, 2015, & before March 2, 2018, have been placed first or second on two occasions in a hunters' chase in Great Britain or Ireland or have won two Open chases at Point-to-Point Meetings (i.e. Gentlemens, Ladies or Mixed Open Races) in Great Britain or Ireland or have won one Open steeple chase at a Point-to-Point Meeting in Great Britain or Ireland and have been placed first or second in a hunters' steeple chase. I think his two previous festival wins get him in and the other week he had a spin round Haydock |

By:
Have they changed it then? I presume you have copied the quals for last year. I thought that they had to qualify in the current season at one time. I am probably thinking about handicappers going hunter chasing for the first time. If it is the same this year with 2019 instead of 2018 then it is too late for anything else to qualify.

Always worth a look back, see who targets them
Just looking at how long the runners were out Before they arrived at cheltenham Got a few winners this year But some odditys thrown up Day 1 was put the kettle on targetted from 114 days out ,Epatante was one of the three with 75 day breaks which were the longest in the champion hurdle field. The mares hurdle had popong 115 nowhere, but galvin 4\1 nearly 105 days break runner up in the novices chase.Ravenshill won the last after a 107 day break 4 less than the third placed pippin at 33\1. Champ had the longest break in the rsa , some 70 days, whilst the coral cup winner had spent 88 days on the sidelines second highest in the race. Politologue was the longest out in the champion chase some 95 days . Desiel dalier, repetito and the glancing queen all failed to trouble the judge in the last three races on wednesday. None of the longest break horses won on thursday or friday. A very unusual occurence, plenty hit the post, saint calvados had spent 70 days out before the second in the ryanair, bacardys third 33\1 ,in the stayers , had spent 75 days out as well, but in the mares novice hurdle the third raynasworld at 100\1 had also spent 77 days out. In the melee of the handicaps on friday the 679 day gap of dunhallow tornado failed to pay off, as did cliffs of dover 437 day break.shirley the puzzle of the week has to go to berkshire royal, 515 days away from the track and up for the supreme ? Easy saidin retrospect ! |
