After Thistlecrack didn't appear to stay yesterday it is likely the field will run the Gold Cup at a fast pace and as result the field may blow up turning for home.

Blaklion stayed on well to win the RSA last year. Although he has run a couple of decent races this year he hasn't run at his beloved Cheltenham yet where he has great course form.

I personally prefer Blaklion to NTD other challenger Bristol de Mai as the likely alternative to Thistlecrack.

I've backed him ew at 50/1 and was quietly confident at the same. According to Buddilea he is entered for Haydock next month which to me is off putting. All his best form is on undulating courses, notably Cheltenham, so I was disappointed not to see him amongst the Pilar entries yesterday.

With Bristol De Mai winning so well last week, it looks like he's now Twistons number 1, but all his best form is on flat courses..I'd just be happy if he turned up on gold cup day now, but fear my bet is scuppered.

Yeah he is entered in the Grand National trial at Haydock but that is only a provisional entry. Connections must surely be focusing on the Gold Cup now after Thistlecrack bubble was popped yesterday. No doubt they'll be thinking of Lord Windermere. I expect a huge Gold Cup field 16+ runners.

Blaklion could even run him next Saturday in the big handicap chase at Sandown as a prep run or The Denman Chase the following weekend.

Good jumper and I did back him in the RSA,although did get lucky with how the race panned out.
Personally don't think hes good enough, but I guess his price reflects that, and you just never know with the Gold Cup,can be a funny race.

I share @twonky's fear that Blaklion won't line up, especially after Bristol de Mai's recent win in the Peter Marsh, and he is entered in the Grand National trial at Haydock in three weeks' time. If Blaklion does run then he has every chance in a Gold Cup that looks very, very open apart from Thistlecrack.

Anybody heard any news on Blaklion?

In today's (Sunday 5 Feb) Racing Post, NTD says Blaklion will go for the Haydock Grand National trial, and that while the Grand National is Blaklion's main target, he might run in the Gold Cup as well.

Seems to lack physical scope and has jumped and run poorly this season.
Way below what's needed to win the Gold Cup and probably peaked as a novice.

Always been a small horse. He needs that uphill finish. If ever a horse for a course. Could easily run well at a very big price.

Will they run him in the Gold Cup or just go straight to the National?

All his best form is at Cheltenham and they haven't run him at Cheltenham this season - very strange.

Only three weeks between the Gold Cup and Grand National.

Had a bit e/w at 66-1 with PP NRNB yesterday. Big price for a RSA chase winner, has a touch of the Lord Windermeres about him.
