Think the new drainage system has a lot to do with it Wayward Lad would have won at least 2 Gold Cups the way the course is now

Part of it as well is that mainly good horses run at Cheltenham at the festival and good horses tend to stay going.
Agree it is overstated a bit, the new course for the juvenile hurdlers at the age they are is pretty tough, though. |

Biggest tripe in racing? It is not even the biggest tripe at the festival. That distinction goes to the "Cheltenham roar" -- have the Channel 4 Racing team (whatever happened to them?) never been to a football match?

A football match is enclosed, a racecourse isnt. There is a huge difference between the two .
There will be more people in Cheltenham on Gold Cup day than there will be at any premiership match in England with the exception of Man Utd. |

Start of the first day at Cheltenham is probably everybody's favourite hour and a half's racing of the year.
Supreme, Arkle great races in there own right; and shape the future Top-class 3 mile handicap chase that with Cheltenham now being the be-all and end-all, is likely to have slow-maturing Gold Cup horses in it into the future. Champion Hurdle, my favourite race of the National Hunt season, usually produces a brilliant race and lots of talking points. I'd be roaring my head off at the start as well! |

I was at the Cheltenham Festival meeting a few years back Mincer and i crossed the track at the last hurdle on my way out to see the x/country race. The hill was not quite as bad as i thought it was ,to be fair the last hurdle had been moved forward a few years before takeing some of the hill away , but you are more right then wrong .
Neill i cant think of a sporting event that gives me more pleasure then the start of the the Cheltenham Festival , im like a kid wanting for Santa, roll on the 14th of March. ![]() |
