Can answer my own question now thanks to Twitter ...
"Alan King confirms to @AtTheRaces that the Coral Hurdle @Ascot (19th Nov) remains the likely starting point for Yanworth next month." I'll be taking that 14/1. |
By:
2m rather than 3 for me
|
By:
Good shout Paterson. Think he looks a real stayer. Have taken some myself. Especially when you look at the market. Can't see most of the runners ahead of him in the betting even targeting the race.
|
By:
Alan Kings stable tour in todays post says "The World Hurdle" is the target if everything goes right.
14/1 or 10/1 any race today with Skybet as a priceboost. |
By:
Great price. Get On. Ive taken 14s to win World.
|
By:
Not sure where you are reading that Shockster. I have Alan Kings RP stable tour in front of me, and he says "starting over 2m4f after which we can decide whether he goes up or down in trip, heads for the workd hurdle or not"
|
By:
Did Alan King not say Yanworth would be prepared for the Champion Hurdle last year initially?
|
By:
Thanks for putting me right GI. Honestly not trying to put anyone away, just popped into the bookies at dinner time and glimpsed at the AK Stable tour. Thought he'd said what I posted. Apologies.
|
By:
Certainly looked very good until beaten at the Festival so anything is possible.

The "any race" option surely is the one for supporters. 10/1 seems about fair and, if you take into account that King's yard was not firing at Cheltenham and that Yorkhill had a much better passage home, I can see why he has supporters.
Unexposed, indeed. |
By:
yorkhill gagged up regardless of anything else, completely different class that day.
|
By:
He is still very unexposed, and almost forgotten.
I agree Yorkhill was a different class in the Neptune but was underwhelming in his next two races, so has a little bit to prove now imo (people can make whatever excuses they want but his reputation certainly did take a dent - perhaps in Mullins wasn't going for the title, he wouldn't have ran at Aintree). For me, if staying over hurdles, World Hurdle would be the only option for Yanworth, but I fear he may be a tripless over hurdles, which is why I would have sent him chasing - JLT then Ryanair, possibly seeing if he'll last out the Gold Cup trip in time. I think he will be a fantastic chaser and was disappointed they've delayed that route. |
By:
He hasnt had the chance to show what he can do at 3m over hurdles yet though wc. The way he won the Classic on Heavy Ground and then the way he finished in the Neptune really suggest 3m might be the making of him to me.
Leaving aside the ride he received in the Neptune, I think Yorkhill just outspeeded him at the Festival. Yanworth was staying on the best of the two at the end of the race. |
By:
Altior and Buveur D'air are both going over fences hence I'm surprised Yanworth is not given they are all of the same age - the connections of Yorkhill have yet to declare their preference. On the other hand with Thistlerack vacating his 3m 'crown' Yanworth is the 'young' pretender with the most potential on last year's form.
Yorkhill is unlikely to be going for the Champion Hurdle with WPM/RR having so any options; he is also unlikely to do battle with Yanworth over hurdles over 20-24f either. However, he could go for the Arkle but Altior could be his conqueror; the JLT (doing battle with Buveur D'air) and the RSA are possibilities. |
By:
Yorkhill is owned by Wylie though impossible and he hasnt another CH contender. If he stays over hurdles, the CH looks the only option for him imo. Bellshill looked more likely to go Novice Chasing I reckon.
|
By:
I'm sure we'll find out soon CCM re Yanworth. It's just a gut feeling I have a bit out him possibly not being able to see out 3m in a proper G1 race, but we won't know until he tries.
There wasn't really any talk of him going for the Albert Bartlett last year, just Supreme or Neptune, and I really think 2.5m is his trip - so for me there are more opportunties for him over fences. World Hurdle looks it could be there for the taking though, with nothing standing out at the top of the betting. |
By:
CCM,
I believe WPM has the Arkle for Yorkhill (initially) but with Altior going too WPM could be having 2nd thought; I also think Yorkhill would be wasted going for the Champion Hurdle as he is neither match for Faugheen nor Annie Power; he is neither a match for Apple's Jade too. I do not think Yorkhill will go for the World Hurdle either - he'll be whipped by Yanworth - but could end up in the JLT. If Bellshill is going chasing, the RSA could be the race for him. But with WPM/RR/Wylie the horses will revolve around Ruby. |
By:
Don't think Yanworth would be whipped by Yanworth over 3 or any distance, Yorkhill was running away from Yanworth going to the last and then stuck his head in the air and idled not doing a tap after, and even then Yanworth wasn't really closing him down as much as you'd think.
I think Yorkhill would be a real force wherever they go with him but with Ruby getting off him and proclaiming that he'd win the Arkle it seems he was already getting all the cards in order. |
By:
Don't think Yorkhill would be whipped by Yanworth that should be....too many yyyyy's
|
By:
Could well be that Yanworth will be seen at his best on soft ground. He has ran twice on Good and beaten both, albeit both times at the Festival.
I haven't made my mind up who I think is the better long term prospect between Yorkhill and Yanworth, but may well be that their paths don't cross again. The Neptune is such a good trial for the Champion Hurdle, I'd be tempted to go down that route for Yorkhill. |
By:
Into 10's top price for the World Hurdle already. Look forward to seeing him at the weekend. Feels like the NH season is properly in full swing now.

ALAN KING is hoping Saturday's Coral Hurdle at Ascot will provide him with some crucial guidance as he negotiates a path towards the Cheltenham Festival in March with Yanworth, one of last season's leading novice hurdlers.
JP McManus's six-year-old steps into open company for the first time in Saturday's 2m3½f Grade 2 contest and his comeback run will help shape his season. "This will help guide us in deciding whether he is a horse for the Champion Hurdle or the World Hurdle," King said in his Racing Post Weekender column. He added: "He's done everything we've asked of him at home and he's in very good form. It's an exciting time as he really shone over hurdles last season and we hope he's got a big future." Classy rivals Yanworth was one of ten entries revealed on Tuesday and his potential rivals on Saturday include Irish challenger Petit Mouchoir and classy pair Lil Rockerfeller and Zarkandar. The Grade 2 Stella Artois 1965 Chase over 2m5f on the same card was also reopened for entries on Monday, with a possible field of ten - including former Champion Chase winner Dodging Bullets and his Paul Nicholls-trained stablemate Vibrato Valtat - unveiled yesterday. In-form trainer Tom George is keeping his options open for stable star God's Own, who has an entry at Ascot in addition to one in the Grade 1 Betfair Chase the same afternoon. George said: "We're very keen to try him over three miles but not on soft ground. He's fine on good to soft and the forecast sounds better for Ascot. He needs to run." The going at Ascot was good to soft yesterday with "possible showers" forecast today and tomorrow. Friday and Saturday looking drier but colder. |
By:
Will surely be lining up in the Stayers after that run today, whether he is good enough is another matter.
|
By:
Just managed to win, and maybe was over-rated last season. Surely, no Champion hurdle but a stayers hurdle or the RSA beckon, I'd think.
|
By:
The king horses were running diabolically at Cheltenham, not sure we saw his true running that day. I am not sure he was tuned up for today and still a niggle in my mind about king horses. The fact that the pair were clear of the rest is encouranging.
A real live chance for stayers imo |
By:
I wish the connections of Thistlecrack will ping me an email prior to coming here; if so, I'd put a colossal sum on him to win - a certainty if there was one, all things being equal, of course.
|
By:
I hope It was just freshness with YANWORTH on his seasonal debut, as he pulled for half the race. It's amazing he won given the way he fought for his head for over a mile. If he seriously going to win the World Hurdle, then the trainer will have to bring him to the track with a more "relaxed" attitude to the early pace of a 3m race or he won't win anything over 3m. If the same happens NTO then send him to Tizzard, he will slow him down and prime him for the World Hurdle.

King knows how to train a world hurdle winner
|
By:
The perfect run for World Hurdle backers imo.
Geraghty said: "I was never sure I was going to get past until I flew the last and he battled well from there.* "He is very comfortable at that trip, but I just feel he would be more comfortable at a staying trip.*He needs to improve a lot for it on form to be with the best." King said: "It is a huge relief. He has not been on the grass and one or two of our proper jump horses in the last week or two have just been found out. "He has done a lot of work but there is a fair bit of improvement to come.*Just talking to AP (McCoy) and Barry he might well go up (in trip) and we could look at the Long Walk. "That was five minutes of hell. I thought he was held between the last two, but he has dug in. "He has not had much practice, as in his first four races over hurdles he had not come off the bridle. Physically he will come on for that." |
By:
doesn't jump quickly enough for a champion hurdle but maybe slight chance over 3miles if jumping improves.looks more of a stayer it seems
|
By:
JP potentially has Jezki, Yanworth and Unowhatimeanharry for the World Hurdle.
I'll admit I completely forgot about Unowhatimeanharry when placing my Yanworth bet for the World Hurdle. At this moment in time the only one likely to drop back in trip out of the above 3 mentioned is Yanworth. |
By:
Paddy have shortened him to 10's for the Champion and made a big move pushing him out to 12's for the World Hurdle. Looks ominous
|
By:
Quotes from King on RUK app that he's going to be entered in International and possibly the Christmas Hurdle and that connections want to keep Yanworth and Unowwhatimeanharry apart - so I would imagine that's why, CCM.
The International could be quite weak so I can understand that - but Yanworth looked like he needed every yard of the trip to get on top at Ascot the other day. |
By:
Cheers Rease. Just read the article and was about to post it. Can understand them wanting to keep them apart I suppose, but Id give Yanworth very little chance in the Champion.
|
By:
Does that mean Yanworth will not run here if Unowhatimeanharry runs?
|
By:
If it's clear that Yanworth needs 3 miles then I'm sure they will both run in the World Hurdle - More Of That and At Fishers Cross both ran in the McManus colours a couple of years ago (McCoy picked the wrong one).
There is the 2m5f race on New Years day that might be a decent target for Yanworth.. |
By:
They have got Jezki as well though uncle.
Suppose they will try 2m and if it's doesn't work then step him up. Personally I'd rather run all three in the same race if that is each horses correct trip than waste a bullet on a CH. |
By:
I must say was surprised Yanworth is bypassing the Long Walk and could run in a 2m race instead; Unowhatimeanharry without Faugheen will no doubt start fav, if so, unlikely JP would run Yanworth as well, I think.
