Can't find a recent thread for this one! One of my favourite races of the festival actually, though I'm sure that some of you will hate it Laugh

Bit different this year with it not being a hcap, not sure why they've done that. So, Josies Orders, up and coming force in this discipline and trained by a master. Seems to hold Sire Collonges by a couple of lengths on their December run, and holds Ballyboker Bridge even further. However, he could only beat Any Currency a length and three quarters in November when getting 23lbs off the runner up. Take that into account, and then consider the nature of this race, and I certainly won't be backing the favourite at 5/2.

So, on the basis of that form, and all of his other C&D form Any Currency looks an excellent e/w bet, that is if you can forgive it a very poor run in November.. but he's getting on a bit now at 13yo so I'm inclined to look elsewhere for now. Looking further down the list, Quantitativeeasing is another with strong C&D form. He was desperately unlucky last year when travelling like the winner only to be put through the railings (had a large e/w on it that day at 12/1 grrrr!!). He was getting 7lbs from Any Currency that day though, and had previously been stuffed by Any Currency off levels (ok we're going back to December 2014 now, I know..). Anyway, he's got to have a decent e/w chance, without exactly looking like a stonking bet at this stage.

That brings us on nicely to the one that I really like at a big price... Love Rory .. looking firstly at his Punchestown form this season.. beaten 3.75L by Quantitativeeasing. when giving him 5lbs... that puts him bang in the picture here (at about 5x the price). He's since been beaten 5L by Ballybroker Bridge when only conceding 3lbs which tempers enthusiasm, but it was very testing ground. In between these two runs he's fell fairly early in December, which is concerning too.. but bare with me. This is a horse that was sent off at only 10/1 to win this race in 2014  (on the back of beating Big Shu) as a 6yo  too (which is way too young for this gruelling test). He had a fair amount of weight on his back that day too. Rewatching that race, he seemed to jump well and was enjoying himself, being right up there until fading late on (lack of stamina at young age?). He had a year off the track, presumably injured, but is running well again in cross country races now, and has recently been acquired by JP which is fairly interesting, I really couldn't rule out a big run. There may be a bit of a question mark over his stamina but at 25/1 I'm more than prepared to take a chance on him. He just strikes me as a bit of a 'forgotten horse' in this race / discipline, and still being fairly young, he's probably still got more to come.

Good luck whatever you back :)

Good write up. I'll be at the toilet when this race is on though Laugh

Are we likely to get 4 x 1/4 on the day? I'v been holding off on betting in this as there's likely to be a 16 or more, surely some of the books will go first 4?
