STS - one minute you are telling us that UDS can't jump and that he's a dodgy proposition for the CC, then you're including him in your accas?
|
|
By:
STS - your posts are a bundle of contradictions.
Personally, I think the value is now sucked out of the Mullins horses. Due to long term liabilities and the fear factor of a day 1 massacre, the bookmakers have offered very short prices against some of the Mullins runners. If Min wins the first they will be ducking for cover again. Even though I find it hard to see some of them beaten I am beginning to think that a lay of some of these horses could potentially be the way to go. Every horse has it's price and 1/3, 1/2 shots in championship races is ridiculously short. |
|
By:
You've also backed Min at Evs when it is available at 13/8 today.
|
|
By:
STS - why on earth would you start putting on accum bets when the prices have already been decimated and NRNB is still not available on some races?
You're like the guy who has watched the stock market go up and up and up and then suddenly throws in the towel and buys in frustration. Wrong strategy. imo. |

WTF
You can't fecking win on here at the moment! NO ONES OPINION IS WORTH A JOT COS EVERYONE FORUMITE IS RIGHT THESE DAYS (selective memory if you ask me of those that have read the entire forum as i do)I laid my opinion bear on the thread i set up, but doesn't mean to say that i don't want to make a few quid during the fez!! HOW MANY TIMES DOWN THE YEARS HAVE I SAID THAT I NEVER BACK THE SHORTIES AND ALWAYS LOOK FOR E/WAY VALUE SHOTS AGAINST THEM, I DO THIS DAY IN DAY OUT, MAYBE I AM FULL UP NOW OF THE POTENTIAL OPPONENTS THESE 'GOOD THINGS' HAVE TO BEAT, AND GIVING THAT THESE ACCAS ON THE SHORT ONES ARE MIGHTY CHEAP AND ARE TRULY UNLIKELY TO FAIL (given their superiority over what we have already seen, min being the only dodgy one in there that i can see in why i have added and will be adding the likes of Altior, BD etc in others with the other 3) I am knee deep in each way bets, none of which include these bankers, i expect 3 to win, if i am right, i will profit cos i will have backed the winner and hopefully a place at inflated antepost odds, but if i am wrong, i will have the places with my each way bets and a few of these cheap accas up. A tenner acca with 365 pays £85, doesn't take much working out how many i need to put on to make it worthwhile so where it may LOOK LIKE I AM PLAYING IT MP STYLEEEE, (hense the title of this thread) I MOST CERTAINLY HAVE NOT!!!! ![]() |

And as for min at evs, that was only cos of the bookmaker it was placed with. Stans, i deposited 40 this morning, was going to put 20 ew on A Toi Phil at 20s for the neptune and decided on 15 after depositing so as to look after the account and still get the price and so to boost the chance i can keep this account fully open i placed the above acca and they are only evs 1/2 4/11 and 4/5.

Above accounts have since been closed, i got the above emails and although the racebets one was ok ish after the 1st email which is at the top, the 2nd email curtailed it altogether, doesn't say as much, but i can assure you i cannot get a bet on with more than a £10 take out on anything now. The betway account is now 0.00 all bets except for virtual and casino
![]() I have read between the lines, i know what i did with them accounts that I have not done with others and intend not to do the same with any other with respect to try and keep them all open. Try being the work lol This is keeping stakes to a min, if needing more on is there other bookmakers of the same price or spread bets around, i.e put them in a multiple with a 1/10 shot running that day perhaps, is the price under threat of being shortened again can you spread the stake you want around etc etc. It's working so far, i have a bet£265 account that is still mp status, despite thumping them for 7k last season, remember the TOUCH on Ayr gold cup day If ever was a day i was going to lose that account it was then ![]() |

I'm sure your new policy of placing under-the-odds mug accas will see them keep your accounts open for the foreseeable.
Just as an aside, I do read your posts on here and am fully aware that you like to have a lot running for you, but this year in particular almost every time someone mentions a horse it's either already in your portfolio or is about to be added. I don't see how backing every horse in a race and quite a few that don't line up can be:- 1. Profitable - even if you do chisel out a small margin on some races, the amount of time you're putting into it, running around bookies/opening new accounts probably sees you 'earning' less than minimum wage 2. Much fun - who do you cheer for? Can you give an example, of say your Champion Hurdle book? You seem to have decided that Faugheen can't be beaten, what have you got running for you - who will you be cheering on? |

Everyone has a different punting policy. If it works for STS, I don't see what the issue is to be honest.
|
|
By:
No issue WC and I'm certainly not looking for an argument.
I'm just genuinely interested to know what he gets out of the experience and/or if it actually does work? |
|
By:
I have been on here for since 2005, my punting policy has changed somewhat down the years but i see it as this.
You can think what you all like, but i have outlived quite a few forumites on here and will outlive a fair few more. As willchief says, it works for me and i am here year in year out. Make good money fez week and it pays for a holiday every year. As for the Churdle itself, that is a mess, one ive got wrong but there is a glimmer of light but its not good reading. I always bet against the shorties and will continue, sometimes i meet with pie in the face, other times when the shorties get beat i have full pockets. As i can't now see Faugheen getting beat, and have staked 140 so far on this race, adding up what ive also staked on the Arkle Supreme and QMCC, ive worked out i need 5 of these accas, basically a £50 four fold to brake even should all 4 win. But that's not including any place money i might get back from them that finish 2nd or 3rd ![]() Have to add my Arkle and supreme books are much better, with potential 2nd 3rd 4th fav's all backed each way at double or more their current prices and i have sprinter sacre at 25/1! CHAMPION HDL THE NEW ONE £20 EW 20/1 1/4 1-3 MY TENT OR YOURS £20 EW 20/1 1/4 1-3 OLD GUARD £20 EW 20/1 1/4 1-3 TOP NOTCH £15 EW 33/1 1/4 1-3 NICHOLS CANYON £30 EW 8/1 1/5 1-3 - any race |

What do i get out of it
Good debate on here going forwards year in year out - except this year it is somewhat diluted given the apparent domination of one yard in Ireland but that's a debate for another thread ![]() Hard work, a lot of news reading, race watching and market reading Culminating in the 2nd week of March being dubbed payday times 4! Have had a profitable fez every year since 2010 What ever your strategies gentlemen, GL and hope 2016 is profitable for all ![]() |
|
By:
Champion Hurdle a bit of a mess for me too.
Faugheen at 5/2, but if he wins that'll only cover the losses on Hargam, Peace and Co and MTOY. Realistically my only way I'd being up is if Faugheen wins and either MTOY or P&C place. My usual philosophy is if I can be even at the end of the week I'll be happy. I'm only a £500 for the entire festival person, where I know some will have that on one horse!! The thrill of beating the bookies (even a £5er profit per race would do me) and the joy of an antepost one you've defended winning (eg if Cue Card wins the GC, the joy of knowing I'd supported him on here for months would give me more joy than the £150 or so cash that I'd win). |
|
By:
Well lads I thought you may struggle with the CH as you didn't rate Faugheens win superior to Jezki
![]() |
|
By:
Slower, you keep misunderstanding that point. Faugheen is a better horse than Jezki, Faugheen would beat every horse that ran in Jezki's race...that is not the debate.
We are saying Jezki's Champion Hurdle had more depth throughout the field (ratings back that up) and was a more fascinating renewal. Shame you weren't on here then to give your wisdom beforehand. |
|
By:
Exactly wellchief, don't give him the time or day mate he's just fishing
![]() |
|
By:
It was for you
I'm not misunderstanding we have different points of view end of. I'm not professing to be wise or an expert but you say Faugheen would beat have every horse in Jezki's race yet it stronger in depth? A slight contradiction in terms because as you said OR aren't the gospel! |
|
By:
Why is one race superior to the other though slowerthanjohn? I have witnessed hundreds of grade 7's on the all weather with absolutely brilliant finishes, 3-4-5 horses gunning for the win down the straight at lingers, south' etc. Not going to start to even contemplate saying they are of the same quality but they are in the same ball park, the difference being they live in the memory for approx 10 minutes where as the likes of Jezki's Churdle will be there forever! As for Faugheen's, i had to look up what finished 3rd 4th and 5th the other day! The main reasoning for that for me was the debate before it.
|
|
By:
What am trying to say that for me and i think for wellchief too, a good race doesn't necessarily mean by what won it, but by what competed in it and the debate that preceded and proceeded it!
|
|
By:
STS I can't take you seriously after your comments about Ruby Walsh and the list of jockeys you rated his superior, that for me says it all!
|
|
By:
I was merely referring to my opinion that Ruby Walsh is not the best race reader in the world nor is he the best at presenting a horse to an obstacle! It's all very well watching him on top notchers at 1/stupid, but watch him in the next maiden hdl hes racing in, or the handicap on the same card. Trust me, he's one of the worst.
McCoy was the best i've ever seen on low grade stuff, Johnson quite rightly a very close 2nd! Again, not talking about top notchers, talking about run of the mill! Lets leave it there eh |
|
By:
When a horse gets an obstacle wrong, RW lands on the deck far more often than any of them jockeys ive mentioned is also something i was trying to say
|
|
By:
Yeah because you're right
![]() |

By:
Just leave it STS.
STJ is a wind up merchant, who doesn't offer an opinion himself, and just shoots other down. Good luck with your bets STS. |
|
By:
No WC my opinion is Faugheen is a very good CH and just because I have different views to you. STS showed his ignorance with the statement about Ruby Walsh, a truly stupid thing to say.
|

By:
Let's just all bow to slowerthanjohn he's right we are all wrong
![]() The forum would be a far duller place without you |

I'm right about you

Hmmm, I see what you mean about the CHurdle STS, very much behind the 8 ball. Your Nicholls Canyon bet might get you out of jail if he goes World Hurdle, but other than that it looks like you'll be struggling for any type of pick up. My admission is that I suspected that your CHurdle book might be a bit challenged, from what you had previously put up, and wondered how that probable skinning would impact on your week as a whole, since you tend to target small wins on most races?
For transparancy, my only CHurdle bets are a small lay of Faugheen at 2.4 just after last years festival, which I was able to get out of after his defeat to NC. What small amount I've made on that I've re-invested on Aristo du Plessis at 66/1 NRNB. I see it more as a watching race than a punting one, but if ADP doesn't turn up no doubt I'll end up chucking a tenner at something like Peace & Co for a bit of interest on the day. Ordinarily I lay the odds ons at Cheltenham, but just can't see Faugheen getting beat by this moderate bunch. Still everything has it's price and if he goes 1/4 or something daft, I'll have to be against him. The only race I've backed more than two in is the CGC and only then because one of them was Coneygree, I could easily have another nonner too as one of the others is Vautour. The third is a point and half bigger than when I got on, Don Poli - not great........ Two per race max and a RFC on the day is my usual MO. |
