Feel empty today as I do every year. 361 days to go, the countdown starts now. I hate the end of the NH season, flat racing is complete **** in comparison

Here's a bit of practical advice.
Go through the results and your punting and make loads of notes on your thoughts, what you did well what you did bad, trends upheld, trends busted etc. It'll take you a few days, give you a host of good memories and be a really good reference point for analysis of next years Fez runners. |

Or failing that retreat to a dark room with a few bottles of single malt and watch the mares hurdle over and over again.

Personally I love the flat too, although nothing really matches Cheltenham in March. The flat has its own charms and my advice would be:
1. Pick a stable who do well with 2 year olds and follow them (and only them) throughout the season. This will give you some fun and will make it almost like following a football club. A localish stable may also give that 'football club' feel and you may get quotes in local newspapers etc that you don't get in the nationals or even the RP. 2. Go and watch them race, especially their first run. Put a face to a name and all that! If you watch them again as they approach the end of their first season you will notice that they have changed massively both in how they race and physically too. 3. The chances are that if you follow the stable, listen to trainers/jockeys reports as you will potentially get some sort of edge over the bookies and know what races the 2yo's have as targets. 4. Read up about the 2yo's bloodlines and get that sense of history to each horse. I do find that this is something the flat has over NH racing. Whereas in NH racing the horses become familiar with us due to watching them year on year, in flat racing horses become familiar through their parentage. 5. You never know, but you might discover a flat horse who becomes a NH horse! The other thing is to start looking forward to the Grand National. It's only a few weeks away now and some serious study can be put into the race. And finally, do a 'Classics Lucky 15' 1000, 2000, Derby and Oaks. This makes all the trials in the early part of the season much more exciting. And finally, finally if you can afford it, save up and go and watch The Breeders Cup in the States (this year Keeneland, Lexington, Kentucky). I went to Santa Anita in 1994 and absolutely loved the whole experience. It might cost a few bob, but probably not as much as you'd think and will almost certainly give a deeper insight and enjoyment of the flat game |

Great week, the best weeks racing in the world, no doubt...... But thank f**k it's only once a year and that's it finished, my body can only take that abuse once a year.......

To make it all worse its a bit later next year and then when you add in the leap year day it starts 371 days after the start of this years.

If it's later it just means it's less of a gap till Aintree......4 weeks this year is murder!!
