I've had my fair share of hard luck stories, never did I think I would have an unluckier loser than a horse called Wilde Ruby a couple of years ago.

Today took it to a whole new level. £1,200 profit from "Ruby's Tuesday" relied on Annie clearing the last hurdle and down she goes. Having backed her at 7/2 for last years World Hurdle, I didn't think she could break my heart for a 2nd year running.

... There's no other sport like it, onwards and upwards :)

Having watched it back a few times I think Ruby was to blame. She was cruising in front with Glens Melody hard at it and not making up any ground then Ruby asked Annie to go from 2nd gear to 5th about 100yds from the last and down dhe goes. She hadn't raced in nearly a year and had so much left in the tank why couldn't he have just let her pop the last then get after her on the run in?

Annie Power jumped the shadow, as did Glens Melody, the difference was that Glens Melody did a much better leap.  Not sure what this points to, but possibly some tiredness on Annie Power's part?  I'm not suggesting the Glens Melody would've won anyway but it may well be that Annie Power would not of won by any great distance.

She would've hacked up (hit 1.05 in running). She went from 1 length up on the home turn to 4 lengths up at the last and going away.

How can you blame Ruby when AP took off out of his hands a FULL STRIDE before she was supposed to. If she had taken that extra stride she would have popped it perfectly. Also if Ruby hadn't have kicked on before the last and plowed through it and got beaten we'd all be saying "why did he not kick on". With all that was at stake this was terrible misfortune but all part of racing. No one was to blame. imo.

all ruby did was shake up annie power to go on and she did easily he had hardly gone for everything

quevega took off out of rubys hands a couple years back but survived the error, unfortunately annie didnt. blaming ruby is ridiculous

@RacingPost- Annie Power's stunning racing career is over as Willie Mullins confirms she will not run again (1/3)

Happy retirement Annie, very well deserved. It was all an absolute pleasure.

The cynicism in me is inclined to say that the fact Annie Power, Faugheen & Vautour have only amounted 2 Champion Hurdles between them is nothing short of a farce

Happy Retirement Annie!

I predict the same announcement with Faugheen to follow fairly soon.

Lost to a worse horse in the world hurdle and tripped up in the egg and spoon race before an easy victory in the champion. Disappointing career overall given her talent, largely due to the trainer and jockey.

Disappointing?
Only ever beaten once, other than her fall.
The best NH mare I've seen and that includes Dawn Run.

Annie was very good indeed, but Dawn Run was a total freak and i doubt very much we will ever see one as good again as Dawn Run
