Why does every pundit keep repeating this nonsense?  His form at Gowran Park reads very well, where on my figures he ran to high 140s without being extended.
That performance not only had style but also substance.  Whether he's value or not is another question, but to claim he's beaten nothing is just ignorance.

Same with Faugheen...but what's beaten them I ask?

Yes fair point, on my figures he's already to good enough to win a champion with promise of more to come.

Howdi, without going into detail he beat a subsequent mid 130s grade 2 winner very comfortably by 12 lengths.  Good enough for a rating in the high 140s.

They keep saying it because they are desperate to find excuses for not being with him. He looked an absolute million today apparently.

But in doing that he beat a horse that got his mid 130's rating by winning a race which fell apart with Nichols Canyon unseating and where the second got absolutely walloped by Nichols Canyon next time beaten a much greater collective distance combining the two. It's shaky in terms of rating him but he looks a very serious animal.

I'd be more concerned about his size and experience in a race like this. Sure he could be a serious machine but so were My Tent or Yours, Jezki, Darlan, Spirit Son, Sprinter Sacre, Cue Card, Dunguib, Medermit, Binocular etc etc and they all got beat in this race, some of them at a similar price.

Its usually a very competitive hard race won by warriors.

How good must have "Allez Colombieres" (excuse spelling) have been given that they never had Dpuvan in mind for this race whilst that beast was still alive.
That's what makes me wonder about Douvan, he only came to light after the unfortunate demise of the beast.

FWIW - I agree with an earlier poster, i think Qewy picks him off.

not to mention golantilla who gave him weight getting thumped again today...that must have been the worst grade 1 race in history the way it panned out.

I thought he was rated on his trainers comments!!
But then again,if he was he would be rated a lot higher.

Fascinating though to see if he is actually as good as they make him out to be.

I agree Sizing John went on to win a race that fell apart but nevertheless I feel a rating in the mid 130s is perfectly justifiable.  The horse he beat went on to win a grade 2 next time out, admittedly over further and recorded a figure in the high 130s.
Also when Sizing John won his maiden before his second to Douvan he beat Phils magic who himself is a low 130s horse adn he won a listed race yesterday.  Back to Douvans win at Gowran park he also had smart performers like Henry Higgens whom may have found the ground too soft and grade 2 runner up Modem who has no doubt improved since.  Therefore, I'm confident he's run to a mark in the high 140s as when you look at his form line they do stack up.  When you consider his style of his wins it would no surprise if a rating of 160 would be achievable, whether that will be tomorrow on faster ground at Cheltenham remains to be seen.

He looked like he was half asleep with his pipe and slippers winning a Grade 2....

Quite a few supreme winners 'haven't beat anything' until they win the supreme.  Quite a few even get beat before they get there.  There's no point humming and hawing over previous opposition, or a few pounds here and there. You'll get your answers soon enough.

Douvan

Favourite for the Festival’s opening race, the Supreme Novice Hurdle. Mullins calls him: “One of the nicest horses we’ve taken there”

Had a good look at him in the pre-parade ring. Lovely chasing type. Never turned a hair.

2nd ran a blinder but was simply in the wrong race. Wyllie needs to grow a pair. If Nichols Canyon is rolled in the first tomorrow, one would hope he might.

Just like with Faugheen, I have to say well done to those that believed all along.
I was one that weren't at all sure about him.....I am now.
Exciting horse.
