Couldnt back him with borrowed money. How he is shorter than what he started the season for his 3 efforts this season is amazing

Coming around to the idea. I like Jonjo at The Festival and have backed Holywell the last couple of years. Was lukewarm regarding the Gold Cup but now thinking he could run well. Did Ok today in that egg & spoon and could go there fresh and ready as in previous seasons. Would be happy if McLernon is on board as seems possible with AP likely to be required for Carlingford. If JP lets AP ride Holywell we will know that Jonjo has tipped him the wink.

By:
CL will need to be missing a leg for AP to desert him for Holywell

He ran well on debut at Carlisle over shorter trip, UR at Aintree and won yesterday. Precisely what is such a disaster about his season?
He's won at the last two festivals and blew away a very decent G1 field at Aintree. Looks a touch of value to me. |

By:
Hills still have him at 12s!
Hopefully Mccoy will get on because McLernon managed to get unseated twice on him... |
By:
Hills not NRNB though. Despite RM being unseated, two festival victories on him is a fair record

McCoy won't desert a JP horse with a chance on his final Gold Cup for the man that he respects more than any other in jump racing!
By:
he won't have the choice, he's paid a retainer to ride JPs
By:
Not unheard of - remember he was allowed to get off Uxiandre to ride Taquin last year - and beat his bosses horse into second with a gem of a ride
By:
winning festival handicaps off 140 and 145 is a totally diferent ball game to winning a CGC
![]() |
By:
how many pertemps winners have run in a GC let alone won one
![]() |
By:
Get the feeling you don't rate him, alledged?
By:
I do like him a lot mate I just don't see him as a CGC winner
By:
Alleged - your form book must be missing his Aintree grade one ?

Alleged - Forgive N Forget

rathgorman you beat me by a neck there
By:
and look at the horses he beat .........don Cossack.......... and many clouds a long way behind

If there's a school of thought that last years GC was cack, and that its all about the second season chasers (or even a novice), and he finished up the top rated of that lot last year for a trainer who had a bad half season but tends to get them right come March, then it seems reasonable to like the beast.
..... and reasonable not to I guess. Im in the just in case camp half a point at 14s ![]() |

Alleged - Forgive N Forget
thank you ![]() the don (doesn't stay) don,t you think foyles? many clouds the owner likes runners at his local track ( course didn't suit) OFB looked like the RSA had taken its toll WC over rated admittedly he won the race well but there are plenty of buts/ifs imo |
By:
I would agree with you alleged in that he doesn't scream winner at me
By:
Ok then Alleged, that's your reasons for not backing him, tell us what's the better bet
![]() |
By:
i backed CL before he was pricewised, im hoping he can run into a place.
its not a race i get heavily involved in tbh ![]() |
By:
jumping wont stand up in a gold cup, not a fan but out of sundays race lord windermere must be the bet at 12,s, but the division deffo needs a star to stand up so the race could do with conti pishing up,but i,ll take,
lord windermere bobs worth both ew |
By:
Yeh,i would be concerned about his jumping in the Gold Cup as well.Hes not that big and amongst horses I can see him having problems.
Looks like we could well have a big field, probably at least 15. |
By:
Just had a look at probable runners,i think maximum of 15 actually.
Probably between 12 and 15. |
By:
r mclernon confirmed for the ride.

By:
He's done OK on him the last two festivals hasn't he?!
By:
his time of year, won twice at the festival(only handicaps) and then gone on to aintree to win one and finish second in grade 1 races and jonjo got another handicapper to win the gold cup in synchronised, unless soft ground should go well
By:
No money waiting to back and starting to drift on here??????????? Any ideas
By:
not looking good

Don't get too worried guys - these are Jonjo horses after all - and at the time in the build up when the exchanges are notoriously volatile. There were worries concerning Taquin, now Johs Spirit and even Holywell. They can't all be 'wrong' surely?
By:
Forget that - my mate's just texted that Holywell is cooked! Not often wrong!
By:
Matched at 65 for a few quid
