Why has there not been anybody on here saying Sire De Grugy has no chance in the Champion Chase? Sprinter Sacre gets beat 3 lengths by a Grade 1 winner and this site was full of people saying he wouldn't win the Queen Mother. SDG jumps terrible all through the race, crashes through one and badly unseats at the next (when in my opinion he would have struggled to get past Mr. Mole) and hardly anyone is saying he's now out of the picture! If u compare the 2 comebacks Sprinter Sacres was by far the best. Moore said before the race that if he didn't win yesterday he might as well not run at Cheltenham!

Yeh,i mentioned him on the Mr Mole thread.

Not good at all yesterday, running in the QM must be a bit of a doubt imo.
Report Sprinter7 February 8, 2015 12:59 PM GMT
I agree as I am not sure he would have won if he had not made the mistakes. Looked like Jamie Moore was just starting to niggle before his first big mistake and this is not going to be good for sdg confidence with only a month to the champion chase. Having said that it is still an open looking race as I am not sure sprinter sacre will ever be back to his brilliant best
Report gutfeeling February 8, 2015 1:05 PM GMT
Looked fine but coming off the final bend Jamie asked him for one and the horse put down on him but he never came up at the next which in my experience signals a back strain or problem as a mistake will scare them into clearing the next unless they can't or won't as they are in pain, I'd not be surprised if he was a no show for March but a visit from a horse osteopath will tell them a lot more, I could be wrong but I've laid off my bet for a small loss on what I see towards the end of yesterdays race, Shame as I do like when a smaller yard/owner has a proper horse but they enjoyed a once in a lifetime season and nothing will take that away from them regardless of what happens going forward with SDG.
Report giggsy3444 February 8, 2015 1:09 PM GMT
Sprinter 7 I agree with you. But I think the Champion is now down to 4 horses at most. Sprinter, Dodging Bullets, Champagne Fever (who I don't fancy at all) and Hidden Cyclone (who I don't think jumps well enough). If anything wins outside of those 4 I'd b very surprised! Sprinter won't have to return to his best to win and he only has 3 lengths of improvement to find on Dodging Bullets.
Report buddeliea February 8, 2015 1:14 PM GMT
I would add Mr Mole to that list, and I aint given up on Uxizandre either, hes better than his last 2 runs imo.
Like you I don't really fancy Cfever either.
Hidden Cyclone is a huge runner imo,and still available at decent prices.
Report ACStafford February 8, 2015 10:07 PM GMT
Yes, I think Mr. Mole deserves to be on that list. Even though that race fell apart, he still (barring the start) did it well.
Report Ibrahima Sonko February 8, 2015 10:17 PM GMT
Still a SDG fan, was going to at least finish 2nd to mr mole after a long lay off. He doesnt tend to make mistakes and for me it was rusty unseat nothing really major. Plus he ran 80% of the race so it would had helped with his race fitness.
Report giggsy3444 February 8, 2015 10:35 PM GMT
If u put "ring rusty" into both SDG and SPRINTER comebacks then SDG has even less chance! Sprinter was beaten 3 lengths by a G1 winner on ground he didn't like just 2 get a run into him! Apparently SDG isn't ground dependent and he ran a trian crash of a race and (in my opinion) was beaten when the mistakes were made. I'm a HUGE Sprinter fan and I see no reason 2 dessert SS at this stage!
Report Ibrahima Sonko February 8, 2015 10:38 PM GMT
But i would rather trust a horse coming back from a hip injury than a heart attack. Maybe he was beaten at the time but coming into the straight it was a rerun of his champion chase win.
Report FOYLESWAR February 8, 2015 10:39 PM GMT
tom  segal  made a point today with dynaste out of the ryanaire will hidden cyclone go ryanaire now that its a shade easier with last years winner out ?
Report tomdeane February 8, 2015 10:45 PM GMT
I wasn't especially keen on SDG for a repeat win in the QM and while the jumping was concerning, I was a little surprised to see him drift like he has. I think he's a definite player but agree that Sprinter is the one to beat.
Report buddeliea February 9, 2015 7:02 AM GMT
Foyles ,they been saying some time now about having a go at the QM,and sounded quiet confident of a big run in the last interview with the trainer.
Be surprised if they went back on that now,yes dynasty out could make a difference but we also have the doubts about SS and SDG
I think they are definitely going for it mate,bl00dy hope so!!
Report Tucho February 9, 2015 8:27 AM GMT
He's never really had a passionate fanbase or received any attention though. Completely friendless last year and drifted to 4/1 to win the champion chase on the day of the race.

He was never in my thoughts for this year's race before Saturday, he's not in them now. Nothing to argue about. If he wins I'll shrug and move on again.
Report layingisthewayforward February 9, 2015 9:52 AM GMT
Strange thread. SDG is more than double the price of SS for Cheltenham. That's the backlash in black and white.
Report giggsy3444 February 9, 2015 10:12 AM GMT
What I mean is that when Sprinter Sacre was beat most people on here thought it was the end of the world but when SDG ran his terrible comeback there hasn't been anywhere near the same amount of negative comments!
Report ACStafford February 9, 2015 10:14 AM GMT
Tucho is right. SS got such a big response because he was a wonderhorse. SDG has nowhere near the same support for him.
Report Wicketd February 9, 2015 11:00 AM GMT
the only thing i liked about the performance was that despite all the errors he still made ground easily and was going well when he unseated.

i'm happy to put it down to rustiness and give him another chance
Report tomdeane February 9, 2015 11:10 AM GMT
Me too - I think anything over 6-1 looks pretty fair. I'd be very happy with him and Sprinter running for me against the field.
Report blackballed1 February 9, 2015 11:28 AM GMT
Even though he cost me on Saturday I still can't see him being out the 1st 3 next month! Still think people underestimate him! I was shocked last year when he went out to 4/1!and duly filled my boots on him to win and place! He won me plenty last season and although the jumping was shocking pretty much all the way round it still bodes well he was still going pretty well before he did finally take half a fence down! So il defo be giving him another chance!
Report Makybe_Diva February 9, 2015 12:36 PM GMT
I'm not at all downhearted by SDG's performance on Saturday.

I have put his mistakes down to being a bit careless and a bit rusty. I thought he travelled well and looked full of enthusiasm. It's a shame he lost Jamie. He must have been very disappointed at being unseated from his beloved SDG.

I can't wait to see SDG at Chelts, I love him Love
Report giggsy3444 February 9, 2015 12:47 PM GMT
If you back him after Saturday's performance then it's definitely a case of your heart ruling your head! But that's the thing with the NH game. We get attached to horses and will follow them over a cliff and forgive them over and over again. I've done the same myself. I remember backing Black Jack Ketchem when he won the Albert Bartllet. I then backed and lost money on him time and time again after it.
Report Makybe_Diva February 9, 2015 12:55 PM GMT
I won't be backing anyone, giggsy.

My betting days are over Plain
Report wellchief February 9, 2015 1:04 PM GMT
I used to back Planet of Sound every single race because I thought he had a big win in, and in the end gave up on him when he lost about five in a row.

Next race he then went an won the Gold Cup at Punchestown at 33/1 when he beat Denman Cry
Report SEATHESTARS....NO1 February 15, 2015 11:26 AM GMT
To have a strong gallop on Tues morning if goes ok will contest a handicap at Chepstow! Did i hear that rightConfused
Report stevo1 February 15, 2015 1:22 PM GMT
Lol yes See you did, obviously cant be too happy with him?
Report giggsy3444 February 15, 2015 1:47 PM GMT
Yep you heard it right! Going to gallop during the week and if connections are happy he runs at the weekend (Chepstow). So much for wanting to go to Cheltenham fresh. Sounds like a bit of panic setting in as they didn't expect or plan for what happened last week because they both (trainer and jockey) were so convinced he would win his comeback. What if he gets turned over AGAIN??
Report wellchief February 15, 2015 2:03 PM GMT
I hope he comes back to his best. Got a soft spot for him after last year.

I like the small trainer, jockey, owner story as well.

If it is a handicap he is to run in, off 172 it wouldn't be the end of the world if he got beat. Think it's more to get his confidence up.

He's not a Denman who can carry that type of weight imo. My Tent or Yours was beaten in the Scottish CH giving lumps away but lost nothing in defeat.
Report duffy February 15, 2015 2:08 PM GMT
There's no SDG backlash because he's adopted the role as "giant killer", so he's the "peoples favourite"...when Bradford finally get knocked out of the cup there will be no backlash there either.!!
Report giggsy3444 February 15, 2015 3:00 PM GMT
Then what did Sprinter Sacre do to deserve such a backlash?
Report gutfeeling February 15, 2015 3:07 PM GMT
If you're unsure about fitness or if he is 100% over his problems the best way to find out is under race conditions, Guess they are still in the dark somewhat as he didn't finish lto so best option is another run as you can't replicate race conditions at home.
Report onehundredandeighty February 15, 2015 7:08 PM GMT
Crazy shenanigans, this race (and im not an arber) is the makings of (go with me on this) an arbers paradise.
I am convinced if you back the front four now,you can lay your arse off until the sun dont shine and be in profit in running

Ok i lied but this is a steal
Report onehundredandeighty February 15, 2015 7:09 PM GMT
180s had a bad day and a drink

still right tho Happy
Report blackballed1 February 16, 2015 10:27 AM GMT
I'm glad there giving him another spin as his jumping surely needs a boost after that last week! I don't think they will care if he wins or not just as long as he jumps round with much more zest! Fingers crossed it all goes well.
Report tomdeane February 16, 2015 10:36 AM GMT
I like this move and expect him to win on Saturday.
Report Regular Fries February 16, 2015 4:25 PM GMT
surely the SS 'backlash' was purely down to him still being favourite after the Ascot run?
Report buddeliea February 16, 2015 5:14 PM GMT
Off for ages, comes back and jumps like a bad novice, and now in a handicap 2 and a half weeks before the QM!!
No thanks.
Report ReaseHeath February 16, 2015 5:22 PM GMT
they won't all run but it looks a competitive race with likes of Far West,Melodic Rendezvous, Solar Impulse, Ballygarvey, Chris Pea Green and Grey Gold all entered at 5 day stage - looks like he'll have to give upwards of 20lbs to all those and some of 'em are still on the upgrade.
Report Ibrahima Sonko February 16, 2015 5:58 PM GMT
He gave loads of weight away after his novice season at chepstow, Reckon connections will take them on.
Report giggsy3444 February 16, 2015 6:59 PM GMT
People are saying that if he gets round it'll be good for his confidence. Not really the mindset for thinking a horse can win a champion Chase only 18 days later!
Report blackballed1 February 17, 2015 12:48 PM GMT
Not just happy to get round but jumping much better in general! Not much point in him only getting round and jumping just as bad, he needs to jump with way more better rhythm I was quite shocked how bad his jumping was last time and surprised he got as far as he did! On the upside that day he did come back on the bridle very quickly even after smashing through the fences! But without doubt I think there giving him the race (if they run him that is) for race fitness aswell as brushing up his jumping! I hope they run him as it will help make my mind up on the big day. As of right now I would like to back champagne fever in the race as think he would be a cert each way 112 is some festival form and you see previous form come back year after year!
