It's a hard one to call this one.

He can't pick any of the top four.  Sprinter has his heart issues, Sire De Grugy still hasn't been seen, Dodging Bullets is now no longer a backable price at 5's and the Ryanair is still a viable option for Champagne Fever.

Uxizandre and Simply Ned were well behind Twinlight who was stuffed today.  Don't think that was Uxizandre's true form though, but he has the Ryanair as a viable option, so he can't really pick him either.  Balder Succes is going up in trip too.

Tough one this!
Report The RealDeal January 17, 2015 9:08 PM GMT
That is a tricky one for him, given the price range he likes to operate in - I'll have a stab at Uxizandre, 16/1.

I'll go for Captain Conan at 33's....could run as a back up to SS...last year started 2nd fav. but had no race.....if SS falters it's the same race as last year, quality wise, obviously he's on the comeback trail but so too SDG and there's nowhere else to go with him IMO.

Think on decent ground he could run a big race again.
Hope so anyway, backed him ages ago.

What evidence is there that the racing post is funded by bookiesConfused Just asking cos i genuinely do not know!
Report shockster January 19, 2015 9:08 PM GMT
All the advertising I think STS.
Report wellchief January 19, 2015 9:13 PM GMT
Backed HC a while ago and 70's and 75's on here.

He had them all struggling turning for home in the Ryanair last year, so I think a drop in trip will help.

The worry was that Shark Hanlon would only run him on soft but it was a career best on good ground in the Ryanair.

Don't think anyone is saying he'll win, but no doubt he'll outrun those odds.  It was always a difficult one for Tom (or is it Steven?) Segal as half the field can still go the Ryanair, and the top 2 in the market are overcoming injuries.

I'm sure his methodology is ran a cracker in last years festival, is being aimed at the race, and is a big price.
Report SEATHESTARS....NO1 January 19, 2015 9:21 PM GMT
All newspapers have advertising though so i find it very strange that people put assumptions on here saying that it is funded in this sort of way just because the cretins that are the bookies decide to chop horses on the assumption that that particular horse just might be price wise. A lot of people also do this and put money on these horses the day before too.

I just think it is sour grapes tbh. I can understand the over round argument about other normal races but the fest races? If you horse you wanted to back antepost has been shortened just cos of pw then that is you fault imo for not getting on it sooner. You now just have to wait till the day and hope it aint that much shorter on the day of the race markets or forget imo.

I have not missed a antepost play yet this season i have been lucky in that way. I aint done Hidden Cyclone for anything but will do at advised prices in the morning with b365 for a tenner ew as i have decent book on that race and so i might as well as funnier things have happened and with question marks surrounding the top two in the market DB possibly not having a liking for Chelters we may we end up with a Newmill type winner and 7 weeks out it be a brave man to say whole heartedly that we wouldn't imo!

I personally think PW does a great job at highlighting the horses in a race out of line and too big a price for normal every day arm chair punters like myself who finds it difficult to find them. After all i have said it before, I am the laziest punter you will ever meet, never do any studying of form lol. People say how can people back another persons selection and still get the same enjoyment out of it when they win, my answer to that is EASY, A WINNER IS A WINNER BUT A WINNER AT A JUICY PRICE BEATING SP IS EVEN BETTER

I find this irritating as well. The day before the paper is released and another value loser is tipped up why do the bookies shorten every runner? Whole Pricewise thing is a farce.
Report SEATHESTARS....NO1 January 20, 2015 10:03 AM GMT
Anyone winging on the bookies shortening said horses in these markets i am just wondering one thing.

WAS YOU INTENDING ON BACKING SAID ANIMALS AND IF NOT WHY ARE YOU EVEN LETTING IT BOTHER YOUConfused

If you were aiming to back said animals, you only really have your own selves to blame for not doing so on Sunday before the firms made the chops. All needs to be done is look on the bf market, compare them to bookies prices and bobs your uncle you know what to back. Of the horses that were shortened that didn't move on bf aren't worth bothering about cos they most likely not going to turn up anyways. Either that or will be similar prices on the day unless some kind of catastrophic happenings happens with the horses at the top!

I was angry when the chopped the Gold cup horses last week. I have selections written on a pad with maths worked out on stakes etc for my book for said race. It had been there for a couple weeks but i didn't back any of them for Gold cup thinking that last week would actually be the QMCC pw pick basing that on the first week being the Churdle. Them horses were Smad Place 33/1, Carlingford 33/1, Many Clouds 16/1 and On his Own 25/1. All were shortened before i could get a bean on and to make matters even worse for me the advised price on CL wasn't the 33/1 that he was that Sunday before or the 25/1 that he was at 4pm the day before but at only 20s! I just had to swallow it and take the 20/1, working out the book i made a couple of adjustments and had a bit on it at that price. Still makes a bitter sweet taste in the mouth but i don't blame anyone on here the rp or pw or to another extent i dont even blame the bookies cos it was obvious watching the market on here that he was going to shorten during that day and i still didn't play.

My fault only.

This week i have not made the same mistake and backed Uxezandre at 16s nrnb, Sned and ST at 25s nrnb and just done the PW one at the advised price of 33s this morn with b365.

I learned my mistake last week with the gold cup, wont be doing it again Cool

Just a question well
Your on at 70 and 75,s would you go in again at 33's as you think he will outrun those odds?
Your position is good but surely 33 (pre pricewise) is about fair on his profile?
Report Harvester January 20, 2015 5:35 PM GMT
I would lay it off Robbo and roll the stake money over into a new bet..

You gonna back the whole field bar Sprinter and Sire?
Report stevo1 January 21, 2015 1:29 AM GMT

Report wellchief January 21, 2015 12:07 PM GMT
Nah Robbo, don't think I'll bother laying off.

Only got a fiver on, and although I do really fancy Sprinter, I can't be bothered putting a fiver on a 3/1 shot.

Looking at the others between 16/1 and 33/1 I think Hidden Cyclone has got just as good a chance as any of them, so I'd rather keep my good price, rather than giving half of it away.
Report ACStafford January 21, 2015 8:09 PM GMT
I've come to the conclusion that Segal doesn't like the Festival anywhere near enough. He keeps getting the remaining weeks until it starts wrong. He should be counting down the days!
Report SoYouThink January 21, 2015 9:24 PM GMT
Special Tiara has to be a decent bet for anyone looking to back something at a price. That's my opinion anyway and that's based on the visual impression he created in the Desert Orchid Chase. I just loved the way he jumped. I suppose the obvious weaknesses are his hit and miss form and does he truly stay two miles? Maybe but maybe not then in a Champion Chase. Still he interests me just based on that last run.

Well that was ok,wanted them 1st and 2nd in that order.
Hopefully they will both turn up in the Champion Chase,HC will I would think, not so sure re BND,but theres hope for sure.
