This fella surprised me by popping up in the Ownership of JP and now with Enda Bolger having been under the ownership of one of Andy Turnells patrons previously. Always a talented horse, dare I say it, held back by the shortcomings of said trainer.
Therefore I thought he ran a very eyecatching race as an 11yo running on well into third in the closing 2m 4f rated hurdle at F'house on Saturday.
All a bit speculative at this stage, but as he's with Enda it smacks of one being prepared for a tilt at the Cross Country race. Bet365 are the only firm to quote so I've had a nibble at 12/1. It will be interesting to see what happens to him over the next few weeks.

Very eyecatching run,Can only assume Jp bought him to run in XCountry races given his age.
Very talented horse in his earlier days and couldn't be in better hands.

Good spot....Andy Turnell couldn't train white mice!Mischief

One of my colleagues had a connection with the ex owner. He let Turnell spend a hell of a lot of money on his behalf, some very promising nags that ultimately returned him very little. Moved a few of them to James Ewart but think he may now have dropped from the game. A fool and his money.....

McManus bought him spring sales 2013. that august soon after going into full training with bolger he done a tendon big style. 99% of owners would have had him put down, the green and gold persevered. tenderly handled return at punchestown attracted many punters interest. a huge bounce job next time expected and I could not see this lad going through the pain barrier to win a festival race. it was quite an accomplishment to get him to race again let alone run so well at the weekend.

Do you know keen leader you were my favourite horse ever !
Report tomdeane January 13, 2015 10:18 AM GMT
I loved him too. When he fell at the second-last hurdle in the Neptune Cry

Aaaaaagh... You've ruined a good thread with those memories tom! In my top 3 worst festival moments of all time Sad Absolutely loved the horse too.

Agree with the rest, great spot Rathgorman. JP did this with our old boy Catch Me and nearly won at the Festival.... definitely looks one to watch with interest.

Can remember talking to a lad who rode work for lenny lungo who thought full irish was an absolute certainty in a bumper at Perth, but he didn't know they were facing keen leader who whooped his arse,Cheltenham memories will be on ruk soon,no doubt that fall will be on at the 2nd last, still believe that fall didn't help when going chasing !

Loved Keen Leader was gutted the day it fell as I was at Cheltenham that day for the festival. Never forgive Cooper it would have won 10l on the snaff if he just popped the last 2

He then gave it the worst ride ever in the sun alliance the year after

Is Mrs Catherwood still with us? Don't see her colours on the racecourse any more. She had some good ones with Gordon 'oi think ee'l win' Richards over they years too.

I fancied him for the Supreme in 2009 when I was hoping that AP might ride him. Unfortunately, he was claimed to ride for JP and Mark Grant got the leg up and the rest is history. (At a Cheltenham Preview Night on the eve of the Festival in Prestbury, the Couch said that he'd backed Micheal Flips but had already torn up his antepost betting ticket upon confirmation of the jockey booking!)
