For the most part IMO. The thing that strikes me is the lack of horses that have been left hurdling after their novice season. Of the first 12 home, only 3 have been campaigned solely over hurdles this season. Looking a fairly modest renewal IMO, certainly when it comes to producing top rank hurdlers:

1. Vautour - possibly the exception to the rule but badly beaten LTO in novice chase campaign.

2. Josses Hill - Probably needed first run over fences but soundly beaten, albeit by a smart horse.

3. Vaniteux - Consistent but has probably shown that he is a rung below the top level in all 3 runs this season.

4. Sgt Reckless - Fully entitled to win first novice chase given the opposition but a well beaten last in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton.

5. Wilde Blue Yonder - Not yet seen this season.

6. Wicklow Brave - Appears to have regressed at a rate of knots. Beaten an aggregate of 84.5 lengths in 2 runs this season.

7. Western Boy - Form this season in novice chases reads 87F; tailed off in all 3 starts.

8. Un Ace - Not bad. Won 2 minor novice chases and finished a respectable 2nd against a smart opponent at Cheltenham LTO.

9. Irving - Won the Fighting Fifth hurdle in a modest renewal after spilling at the last at Wincanton. Pulled up in the Christmas Hurdle.

10. Valseur Lido - Very impressive in novice chases thus far and has taken top rank in the division after winning the Drinmore.

11. The Liquidator - Not seen this season.

12. Three Kingdoms - Has been fairly smart in all 3 novice chases contested thus far for a trainer not associated with chasing.

I have been thinking the same, only one for me carrying ante-post money is Vautour for me. its sightly worrying because I thought this was a decent crop.

The other novice hurdles haven't thrown up too much either.

The Neptune has Faugheen, Lieutenant Colonel and maybe to a lesser extent Cole Harden.

The Albert Bartlett has only really given us Champagne West and Kings Palace so far.

Also, with the Liquidator not being seen, neither has Red Sherlock. Not sure if both are OFTS?

Ballyaton and Rathvinden, 2nd and 3rd in the Neptune nowhere to be seen as well.

Western Boy will probably do something for the form in the Grand Annual, if he's rated high enough to get in Crazy
