Very interesting wasn't it. If he's a Neptune type, that means it's 16/1 the field in the Supreme right now. Would have absolutely no idea where to start though. Get Nichols Canyon onside?
By:
Looks like Shaneshill could be dropping back to 2m so looks likely the Supreme will be the aim for him and Nichols Canyon. Highly doubt Ricci wouldn't have a runner in the Supreme if Douvan was to go Neptune. Of course Allez Colombieres looked his Supreme horse but perhaps there's one yet to be unleashed ...

By:
can't see shaneshill running in supreme myself
By:
Why's that Harry? Been mulling this over tonight and think he could be ideal for it.
By:
In my opinion, the aim for Shaneshill was and possibly still is the Neptune, however given the fact he has been less than impressive over 2m4f on his first 2 runs over hurdles, I would say they wouldn't think twice about dropping him back to 2m for the Supreme.

He's got Sempre Medici and Max Dynamite both @ 25/1 for the Supreme. |

not sure tory just not sure he is that quick...i didn't think there was any disgrace the other day he hit the third last then quickened up well before the winner out battled him...i just wonder how wound up he was his next run will tell us more but personally see him as at neptune horse at this stage...
no bet by the way |
By:
True Tucho, however I'm basing that statement on the market as it stands just now. Going by interviews and after the unfortunate circumstances surrounding Allez Colombieres I would have said Douvan looked to be heading for the Supreme. Long way to go yet I suppose ...

Just like to say hello to all regulars on here - I've enjoyed lurking on here the last 3 Cheltenham campaigns, I thought I couldn't join from the pop up that always greeted me !! Anyway, finally got on and look forwards to joining the debate. I'm 23 Cheltenham's not out (F&M year excepted) and unless lightning strikes me down i'm there again in March.
Anyway, re Douvain, I've had a few quid on him at 12s despite giving in to my annual resolution (which I never stick to) not to back Mullins novices ante-post. He was flagged up early by many shrewd judges as his Supreme horse and after the demise of the other Ricci fav, the coast looked clear for him. This snippet must suggest he has something else amongst his battalions as judged by his entry for the Kennel Gate he's certainly got the numbers to go to war with ! |

welcolm rathgorman mullins has a update about some of his Cheltenham horses today and issues a warning on the supreme on the sporting life site and typically says that douvan may be more of a Neptune horse but as this is wp mullins, pinch of salt and all that, but he did say that douvan has similar qualitys to mikeal de haguenet and could be more of a Neptune or albert Bartlett horse ,but as fits from this yard I would not panic with your bets yet, worth a read

Cheers Foyles, yes, I'm used to Mullins musings, however despite how used to his ways we are, i'd much rather NOT hear these comments :)
I recall last year having both Vautour and Faugheen for what turned out to be their right races, having kittens every time he spoke from January to March ! |
By:
he did it with champ fever the year before and he ended up winning the supreme so wouldn't read too much in it good luck rathgorman

mullins on atr now talking about his horses
By:
Just up,any wiser re interview?

By:
a mere stroll today....
By:
Jumped well, but won as expected from a 3 miler in Alpha Des Obeaux
By:
all systems go for the Neptune

By:
Supremy, you mean......don't you??
By:
has the Supreme been nominated?
By:
Mullins put folk away with that one. Neptune >>>> Supreme money >>>> supreme favourite.
By:
PPower are pretty confident looking at respective odds.
By:
Paddies are still going 10/1 for the Neptune. That tells you were he's going.

12's were stil available with Paddies imediantly after the race, be interesting how long the 10's will last...
By:
job to know how good he is until put under the gun 3-1 not for me.
By:
Very impressive horse. Would take care of L'Ami Serge to name but one no problem imo.
By:
9/4 is truly sickening after beating these horses...yes impressive but didn't see the reason for a full scale price cut myself for beating these particular horses
By:
Supreme seems obvious. I wonder whether they might go down the neptune route. It's has been the preferred path for future champion hurdle types like peddlers cross, the new one and obviously faugheen. He's only 5, so they have time. Wherever they go, he looks real smart. Couldn't have done it any better.
By:
Only had it on in the background (and not watched the replay yet) but on first viewing he jumped really well. Obviously won in good style but I was pretty taken with his hurdling. Can understand why he's 3/1, struggle to see what beats him at this stage.
Not that I'm backing him antepost. |
By:
Jumped and travelled well but not sure what the form is worth. 2nd was behind Black Hercules in a bog at Cork last time over 3 miles. Still, you can only beat what's in front of you.
By:
mullins has also got Alvisio Ville owned by jp so wouldnt be shocked to see him go for the neptune
By:
In a substandard looking Supreme at this stage, I thought 4/1 after the race was a big price and took some. His hurdling was electric and he was very good all round. Would have concerns that he may go to the Neptune but given he's trod the same path as Vautour, I think today's performance will have confirmed to them that the Supreme is the race.
PP 10/1 for the Neptune is stonking insurance though. |
By:
agree,if you back him for the supreme its got to worth a saver on the neptune
By:
Out of interest, genuine question....if this horse was trained by say, Donald McCain what price do you think he would be for the Supreme?
By:
I would say 10s
By:
That's impossible to have an opinion on really isn't it...
One thing I did notice today (and it could well be completely meaningless) was Mullins saying he was suited to going right handed... |
By:
Howdi the horse has raced twice and won we'll both starts over in Ireland with ease form of the first win is looking good at min in my eyes and this lot he beat today might not be up to much but was the manner he done it if u think he should be double or treble the price of lami id be happy to play if u stick the lay up at 10s
By:
We all know if he was with a diff trainer he might be a bit bigger price but that's stupid talk as he's with one of the best trainers around for horses that's why the blokes got sheds of horses with him I wouldn't give mc Cain my puppy to train
By:
Puppy lol but you are right,Douvan is a short price but apart from Henderson beast not too much to beat at moment.
