I've done very well placing his horses over the years but it's becoming more difficult as he gets more and more quality. I focus this season on what will Ruby ride in the 6 novice races.
Also so tactics on betting is a good idea. Say UDS is Arkle bound right. But that means Vautour is JLT bound for now, if UDS gets injured then he'll switch to Arkle. So in this case back UDS for Arkle and Vautour to win any race at Chelts. Some horses who could go for either of 2 races like say Shaneshill it's better to take win at the festival @ 8/1 than plump for say the Neptune @ 10/1. But Briar Hill is AB bound for example going on what has been said and that it's obviously the race for him. But always worth baring in mind injuries and on track performances change plans. So nobody should back a horse without accepting the risks involved etc.. |

On the Saturday after the festival I hope to be in the travel agents asking what Barbados is like this time of year. |

I would agree with the targets of the horses in opening posts. In addition....
Boston Bob and Ballycasey are probably Ryanair bound. Djakadam might join Champagne Fever in the Gold Cup or at least in staying chases. Sir Des Champs has to come back too. He doesn't look to have an obvious Champion Chase runner despite having loads of chase ammunition in the shape of the aforementioned horses. So I wonder will he try and make a 2m chaser out of something. Maybe Felix Yonger might improve. Typically with Mullins the big conundrum is where his novice hurdlers will run. And also which Bumper horses he sends over. His best novice hurdlers this season would look to include Allez Colombieres, Shanseshill, Black Hercules, Douvan, Tell Us More, Killultagh Vic, Royal Caviar, Morning Run, Milsean, Sempre Medici, Nichols Canyon, Max Dynamite and probably a few more. PaddyPower have also introduced a Cheltenham Champion Bumper market of which 8 horses are quoted of which 8 are trained by Mullins. Expect to see these line up in Bumpers at short prices over the next few weeks: Valerian Bridge, Livelovelaugh, Bordini, Bellshill, Au Quart De Tour, Jeweloftheocean, Classic Place & Up For Review. |

Think Boston Bob is to be trained for the GC

But BJG is right at the beginning of thread, WPM will change targets, even as close as the 5 day stage, based upon the fitness and well being of his horses and the opposition. They did that most recently with Vautour and Faugheen at the Punchestwon festival with one horse going up to 20f and the other dropping to 16f, this was because Vautour was under the weather and needed an extra couple of days.

I can't have vautour for the JLT, he's already had to sidestep the CH to accommodate Faugheen, missing the arkle too would be even more of a pi55 take....but I'm of the opinion that the jlt and and ryanair detract from the "proper" championship races

Speaking on Wednesday morning, Mullins told the Racing Post: "We've decided that Annie Power will be campaigned over hurdles rather than fences this season. There are lots of opportunities for her over different distances - the OLBG Mares Hurdle at Cheltenham, which is now a Grade 1, being one of them.
14-1 for the Stan James Champion Hurdle and 5-4 favourite for the mares' race, which her former stablemate Quevega won a record six times. Mullins will defo go mares race IMHO. |
