I can just see the old rogue having a sulk and dropping himself out the back, before suddenly thinking 'ah, go on then' somewhere around Foinavon on the second circuit, cutting through them and giving us a heart-stopping finish.
There won't be a dry eye in this house if he does the improbable.
Most importantly though, I hope he comes back in one piece. He doesn't owe any of us a thing.

Happy retirement to a much loved favourite. Has to be the most spectacular comeback in recent horse racing history after several years in the wilderness.

Will be very much missed.
